OcUK TF2 Community Server

amusing moment of the day for me:

(mbk stuck in the ceiling, legs flailing)
Sorry but LOL @ that pic.

I've just rented a server up for myself and the gaming community that I've been with for years. It'll be from Jolt and a 16 player TF2/FF server. Just waiting for them to get in touch atm.

PiKe, can you hook those of us who will be donating for rcon with rcon just now?

I can, add me on MSN and I'll let you know the details.

(I can't remember whether it was Wardie or Windle I've already given Rcon details to)

I don't know how people are doing it, but if the people with rcon ensure they're in the chatroom, people can then message them and ask for a space, seems the best way to me at the moment.

got a server in bluesquare myself directly connected to the main router i might add :D, spec is xeon 2.13GHz with 1GB ram, glad to install TF2 onto it, not asking for any donations for running the service and got webspace if needed

If it's on linux you havn't got a hope in hell :(

windows is far more resource usage than linux as a base before adding software (in this case) tf2 on top

I'll spare you reading the last 3 pages of this thread and summarise thusly.

We started off with FreeBSD with linux emulation and the unix TF2 binaries, each player that joined consumed in excess of 10% CPU each, we've attributed this to a badly optimised linux binary, other people have experienced the same.

We then proceeded to install windows on to this server and download the server again, the server runs all 24 slots now with ease.

But by all means, give it a go.

hmm been reading through srcds.com's forum seems your right, they havent really been updating the linux binaries so its stuck in old dodgy and unreliable, ah well hopefully they'll get them sorted as they go along, ill get windows back onto this box and let you know, might be an idea if they initial gameserver server ips currently up and running are put on first post
