YAY, another fuel hike!

Just paid 94.9p per litre at tesco. There was a massive queue and as I got to the front this guy shut the pump off and reprogrammed the new higher price!

Luckily I had a 5p off per litre token so 57litres was just over £50.

The roads are VERY poor in Bristol. I would pay the money if the roads were well maintained.

I never realised just how poor they were until going to Germany by car the other week. The roads in holland are pretty much all flawless.

Just look at the overall tax burden (taxes as a percentage of GDP):

Lithuania (28.4 percent)
Latvia (28.6 percent)
Slovakia (30.3 percent)
Ireland (30.2 percent)
Poland (32.9 percent)

United Kingdom (36.0 percent)

Italy (40.6 percent)
France (43.4 percent)
Finland (44.3 percent)
Belgium (45.2 percent)
Denmark (48.8 percent)
Sweden (50.5 percent)

Outside the former communist countries in Eastern Europe the UK has the lowest tax burden! If you want better roads in Bristol we need to pay more not complain about 2p duty hike.

Hasn't inflation been a bit high for the past year or so though? That would explain it...
I think this is just bringing petrol prices in line with inflation.

Funny thing is, I used to love news like this. Now in my (rare! :p) hypocritical stage, I hate it as I drive 2 cars. Means I'll have to cut down on the casual weekend drives in my Triumph, but I can't avoid the drive to work. Bugger.

Thats for fuel, what about Income Tax, VAT, Import Tax for the rest of those contries - does the UK come out on top as the biggest taxer?
No, those figures include all forms of taxation, the UK is a relatively low tax country.

No, lets not. Lets just look as duty as a percentage of fuel price, shall we?
You can - but find that you don't get the whole picture when you only look at a little bit. Sure our fuel duty is relatively high (but not the highest in Europe) but lots of our other taxes are lower resulting in a low overall tax take. This is exactly the way it needs to be given the economic damage increasing imports of expensive oil will do to the country.

This is a motoring forum. We are not concerned with income tax, only taxes directly relating to motoring.

Your figures are misleading becuase they are, presumably, averages. After all, somebody who drives 50,000 private miles a year does not have the same tax burdon as someone who drives 5,000, yet your figures make no allowance for this sort of thing.

makes me cry :(

running a small fleet of taxi's each covering a minimum of 100k a year makes poor rob cry :(

Went and fueled up at my nearest/cheapest BP, one on A34 Stafford were charging 109p for 1l of Ultimate (not changed afaik) and I actually fueled at one in Rugeley which are still at 103p a litre, neither have actually changed for some reason.

Why on earth are you putting Ultimate in a 1.6 Mini?

Fuel economy is 20x better..

On a standard Unleaded tank I get around 30-40 Miles less than on ultimate, I filled up this afternoon and out of a 45l tank i'm getting 440 Miles.. not like im putting V Power in now is it? and from my calculations on that size of tank (11 or so gallons) its not half bad.

Behave :p

It costs more though which (I haven't done the maths) probably means you don't actually gain anything.

And also I doubt if a MINI engine has a knock sensor so it would be technically impossible for it to gain any advantages from the higher octane fuel.

I have, becuase I'm sad.

Taking West's figures, and the fact that Ultimate is usually 8-9p more than regular Unleaded..

West would pay £11.98 to travel 100 miles with regular 95.
West would pay £12.07 to travel 100 miles with Ultimate.

So, best case scenario here is that he's paying an extra 40p a tank or so for Ultimate, although reducing his choice of petrol station. However, despite what he says, its most likely BS, so he's probably spending loads more on a pointless fuel thats not at all suited for his 90bhp car.

Dont see what peoples problem is... it's greener, better for my engine and it seems to be giving me better MPG, why people feel the need to dis-proove almost everything I say is beyond me :)

Oh wait, I know Fox and Oblivious are always on a mission to do that.
