Alistair Darling is now about to add an extra 2.35p tax to every litre of fuel sold in the UK. This tax hike comes into force at the start of next week.

Great!

The car which has always stunted the 7-series' sales, sorry to dissapoint. See the new motors thread. :D

Compared to the current 7, I'm not surprised it stunted their sales!

Thats one hell of a car there mate!

Whats it like on juice? (iirc, not an issue to you - lucky git! - just wondering) :)

Sounds like good news. The number of cars on the road increases steadily every month, poving that income can easily match the increasing cost of motoring. While this luxury is still easily affordable, the government should take advantage of it to generate money for services (which, incidentally, many of the same people spend time complaining about the quality of) used by every single person in this country.

Once motoring prices reach the limit people can afford, people will stop using their cars unless they have no choice, and the government will have to look again at where they generate their income. Tax on fuel will stop increasing. Those who need to drive will get there quicker on quieter roads.

Sounds like everyone gains, to me.

Worst comment ever.

At the end of the day driving isn't a 'luxury' for a lot of people, it's a necessity.

Don't see the problem myself. I LOVE paying extra to get to work, to pay tax.

Exactly.

Jane either gets the bus or park and ride to work... both of which have gone up recently so they can't pull the old "use public transport" line as a response.

Wasn't this announced ages ago when Gordon was in No.11?

Anyway, I'm an average person that earns below £15,000 per annum. I work in an office five days a week, and need my car to get to and from my place of work. I have to use shortcuts to avoid the school run - mainly consisting of parents running their kids in expensive cars I.e 4x4's.

I need my car mainly for work. The bus services run every thirty minutes and in winter that's not exactly pleasant. Not to mention the bus doesn't stop near my work.

I will support any fuel protest - I'm fed up of being raped off my money every single day, and it's not like the money is being well spent either. I understand we all have and should have to pay taxes, but this is getting pathetic. Oh well just means I'll have a bit less to spend in the retail sector and I assume that maybe the case for many people too.

Thank you Mr Brown for taking more money from me and making my life a little more miserable.

I drive a 1998 'R' reg five door Fiesta and I'm 23 years old. I drive as I have to...not for pleasure or for luxury.
