Sony raise $2.7 billion PS3 price cut coming?

Heavenly Sword took up a decent amount of space. I think Ratchet & Clank is going to give the option of taking up about 10GB if what I read was right.

I'd imagine this is going to be for the lower PS3 model they are introducing? I heard a rumour or something similar that they are introducing a low end PS3 model with a 40GB hard drive. There was also a discussion somewhere about it on the forum.

It's already been discussed in the other post on the forum that a reduction in HDD capacity is not going to be enough to make a significant cost in production.
Same goes for the rumour of Sony removing the USB ports (also used to charge the controllers).
I can't remember on which it was mentioned on last week (either the register or the inquirer), a new UK model No has been spotted but there was no mention of this being a new lower spec version or if it is the introduction of the 80GB version for the UK market.

Several of my games are using over 100mb for their save files.

What games do you have?

I said usually because mine are all within a few megs, but I didn't realise they used more than that! Oh well, there's room !

Who cares what price, it needs games.

It already has several really good games they are just not worth the £425 outlay, it would take something of GT5's calibre to shift consoles at that price and even then it would struggle with such a hefty price tag.

Why buy a £425 PS3 to play Warhawk/Tekken when you can wait another 6-9mths and pay £300(?) to play GT5, GTA4 etc, it needs both a price-cut and some big name games.

Its got good games. Ninja Gaiden, Motorstorm, Resistance, Heavenly Sword etc. Its just the price. I was literally crying in Game on Friday when shelling out $425 for 1.

Remove the competitor from your post before the mods spank you :)
Oh and if you paid $425, I wouldn't cry about paying 425 dollars! :D

you can take it the otherway though such as Sony is really struggling and selling everything it can get it's hands on to try to save the ps3, or that they are selling lunch to by dinner

The PS3 is expensive in the UK, but compared to an XBOX 360 Elite, its not that bad.

around £400 buys you a PS3 with 3 good games & an extra controller. An elite plus two good games, an extra controller, the play & charge thingy and the wireless adapter come to more than £400.

The xbox has lots of hidden charges whereas the PS3 comes as a complete unit, but as mentioned above Sony need to get the games out like NOW.

I also cant understand why these consoles cost so much in the UK, even after Taxes and import duties, there too expensive. I paid around £330 retail for my PS3 with 2 games & an extra controller while I was out in the Middle East, this was back in January.

It could also be argued though that you don't need all those "extras" like the blu ray player, wifi etc.

all the games are br arent they - so you are then causing chaos for devs etc having to produce two versions of the same game, taking away a decent reason to develope for the PS3 in the first place

Not everybody needs the wireless though so no point in adding that into the final cost.

Why on earth people have to add everything the PS3 has to the 360's final price is beyond me.

A 360 Elite with the charge kit and 2 good games is gonna be about £350 quid now if you look in the right places.

actually most DO have a wireless router by now - they are practically given away in one form or another - so thats a reasonable thing to have on a console which should last 5 years+

An elite is a good choice but you still only get sd dvd - which isnt just a hindrance for video
