Well I had the misfortune of returning to my car today only to find the passenger window smashed in glass everywhere

I was attendeding a meeting in Manchester, 2 miles outside the city centre. Im normally a lot more carefull but I was running late and madethe stupid mistake of leaving chucking my TomTOm in the glove box and leaving the sucker on display.

When I came back the glove box was open, TomTom gone, and so was the sucker, Id also left my personal phone, a K800i in the glove compartment to, I know, I really cant believe I was so daft, I never leave stuff in the car.

Iv just called up 02 to cancel the sim, changed my TomTom subscription password, so at least the tossers cant use TomTom Traffic. Im just gutted this was taken as the missus bought it me for chistmas a couple of years back :(

I have the joys of calling the police in the morning, cant see what they can do, I did call the insurance company when I noticed what hadhappened, they said I wasnt covered for personal possesions, and that if I claimed for the window I would loose my NCB.

Im hoping my works will sort everything out, after all if I wasnt there on business then my car wouldnt have been in manchester that day. I should here back tomorrow.

So a little lesson was learned today, its the first time I have been a victim of crime, and I can honestly say if I would have caught the sods doing it I would have killed them. I feel truly disgusted that some little scum bag has swiped what I and others have worked hard for.

I will learn from my mistake, no matter how busy I am, or how late im running, I will empty the car of valuables from now on, Im just hoping work will sort me out so this lesson what cause me more the stress it already has.

That sucks, leave nothing on display if your in a dodgy area leave you glove box open as well.

Do tell the police, we had loads of car break in's where I live. The police set up several cars with cameras in. People got arrested and charged. Now the area is a lot better for car crime.

Reporting it stolen is good espescially if you have set "Home" location and have record of the serial number.

My friend got his back this way and the sucker who stole it ended up in court.

I heard about people breaking into cars just because they could see the mark the sucker leaves on the windscreen.

i have a custom mount which doesn't go near the screen anyway but it's terrible the lengths people go to to nick stuff :(

Check your house insurance. Ours covers personal possesions away from the house. I had my car broken into and a PS2 stolen (stupidly left it on the back seat whilst popping into a mates house). House insurance paid out in full, even for the games and memory card that were with it. Not in cash mind - they just delievered me brand new replacements :)

I checked my insurance and they will only pay £100 for goods inside the vehicle, i would also loose my NCB.

I have just got off the phone to the police, they were nice enough, clearly didnt give a toss, his statement said it all.

"we normally do finger prints, but seeing as your now in warrington theres not a lot of point now, bit far away"

One of my best mates is a copper in the area it went missing, he said not to panic about them coming to your home, the fact that they left the stereo suggests its just some little punk doing a smash and grab. oh well, i Have calmed down a bit now, I was fuming yesterday, mostly at myself for leaving the stuff in the car.

Just waiting to hear back off my boss, see what they will replace as it was on a works visit. I cant sort the window out till I know who is going to pay for the thing.

Ouch I feel your pain mate, mine was done back in the spring as I'd left the cradle on display. Was one of the few times I'd actually left the thing in the glovebox. Was quite narked at myself.

I didn't bother claiming, £58 for a new window which I paid for myself as my window excess was £60. Contents was subject to a £100 excess IIRC so I just picked up a cheap Navman for £99 and replaced my gf's MP3 player that was also taken (only a £30 cheepie) with a mobile with mp3 player built in for £40.

The coppers that came out at the time were quite helpful. Crime scene investigation who phoned me the next day were ******* useless.

I built the custom mount that Vix mentioned earlier. It's basically the rotating part of the original docking shoe fitted to a flat plate which sits on a level part of the dash. Will try and get some pics later.

Mine goes in where the ash tray is.

ah. ive only used the GF's one a few times, always use the sucker and thought it was a PITA and wondered how it could be used without the mount... (for some reason i thought it had to be in the windscreen to get access to its satelites or something)

one thing i notice is that a lot of people around here seem to drive with the satnav right in the middle of the windscreen, so right in the way of anything youd need to see to the nearside. and they seem to be on all the time.

i got the impression people had them like that just to 'show off' about the fact they had a satnav thing.

What's wrong with using it all that time? I use it for my commute every day, I find it makes driving easier what with distances and times etc. I used to think they were pointless if you knew where you were going but I quickly changed my mind after using one for a while.

What we he sentenced? (Not enough, I bet!)

I always wipe the mark off my windscreen. I have a cloth for that very purpose.

They ruin my sense of direction :p So I use it as little as possible during my 'normal' routine - just use it for cities and holidays :)

I used to drive with it to the right of the steering wheel (ie. at the edge of the windscreen). Then I saw everyone else with it in the middle of the windscreen and gave it a go, and found it far easier to see at a glance. So I left it there. It's not in the way of anything I need to see to the nearside

And I use mine all the time because it has speed camera locations in ;)

I left our Leon unlocked on the driveway a few weeks ago, go to the car in the morning and the glove box contents are all over the passenger seat. Arse.

Someone must have noticed the alarm light not flashing or just tried the door.

f-ing pikes even nicked my coat. Soo annoying I feel your pain.
