Lord of the Rings Online

nooooo Loki, dont do it, not a dirty Hunter !!! they have overpopulated the servers and ruin the fun for everyone !!! heh .. seriously though they have a massive dmg output and attract massive aggro ,, we have a rule when grouping with one 'you pull it , you tank it'

i have a lvl 50 guardian which like your Minstrel we are a class in demand but it can get boring, ive found playing a loremaster to be the best fun out of all the classes as it proves a challenge in the early levels but now hes nearly lvl 48 , hes a total killing machine with great crowd control

i know i know, im a self confessed hunter hater

theres just so many of them and they all think they r GOD!

but i wanted something a bit of a change from being a minstrel and as the guys i fellow with have said that the hunter was a fun distraction from their own mains that it might be fun,

was really tempted to be a captain due to them being under played (well they certainly are in our kin) but thats another fellowship support class and i really wanted something i could do some damage with also wanted something i could take into the ettenmoors and do some damage with (apparently LM;s r awasome for that btw)

re the other guys question RE end game content.

its not that bad theres lots to do and if you like pvp (well it was better pre book 10 but wont get into that) then u can play that loads.

also there r lots of quests u need be lvl 50 to be able to do and i havent finished all the quests available to me or gained all the traits that i wanted.

when i say i got bored i dont mean to say that the end game is rubbish just that i have been a 50 for a while now and i spend a lot of time just grinding for crafting and helping kin mates and just wanted to be doing soemthing for a charater of my own again hence starting an alt.

hope this helps

Hunter's with a clue how to play seem to be few and far between i've noticed.

But then again, most groups i've been in don't exactly let the hunters set traps or focus before charging into a wall of elites (amount of groups i've saved with bard's arrow lately is amusing).

Captains are a nice class with the handy bonus you can buy all 3 legendary books and the tradeable pages for cheaper than one hunter book :p

what i think i shall do is give it untill about lvl 15ish and see if im enjoying it

if i am all good

if not then i will just re roll again

one plus point is that my Grand master woodworker minstrel can make bow for my hunter, so for once i will be able to make something i can use myself rather than stuff to give away or sell

I tried hunter and got bored silly of it around the mid teens. Tried a loremaster then (never play caster classes usually, have a 46 captain), and I really, really enjoyed the LM. I recommend giving it a go - very interesting class.

Captain is fun too, very versatile between the pet, tanking and healing. They've got some amazing group enhancing skills, and a few very useful ones for getting out of bad pulls too.

hello again :)

just installed my 7 day trial, and as it's a seven day trial only (for the moment) i wanted to ask which class is going to be most useful/fun to play and will see me get the most out of those 7 days?

edit: oh and how much is the monthly subscription (or is it like GW?)?

edit2: nvm...add this to the list of MMORPGs i will never touch again...guildwars 1: everything else 0

just isn't my cup of tea, interface is small, confusing and looks cheaply done, it seems just like a skinned version of WoW (coincidentaly i played both for about the same time (1 hourish)) and i cannot see myself playing it even close to the 1000+ i have in guild wars....can't wait for guild wars 2 :D

*gets coat*

They opened up the lifetime sub offer to everyone a few months back, think its £150 for life otherwise it is usual £9 ish monthly fees.

As said earlier the amount of tanks, captains, champions who rush in before us hunters can set traps up number as many as the bad hunters out there. Still a section of us hunters actually understand how to play our class properly and keep aggro onto the guardians 99% of the time, as even we can't do anything about a critical hit.

I played in the beta but not played it since. I was bored yesterday so I downloaded it for the free 7 day trial.
I enjoyed playing as a hunter in the beta so this is what I went for for the trial. Why do hunters have such a bad reputation? Just cos there are so many of them?
Which are the good servers? I'm on Nimrodel(?) I think. Just finished the noobie instance last night.

They're a primary nuker, and as is the case in most MMOs, there are a whole lot of them who have no idea how to control aggro, but just blast away until half the zone is whacking away on their lightly armoured asses while the healers, tanks and crowd control folks try desperately to keep the hunter alive and drag the mobs off him.

Lmao thats so true!!

hunters seem to get a bit trigger happy :)

thankfully one of my mates (there are 4 of us who always fellow together) is a hunter who knows how to play his role so we dont tend to have to fellow with randoms very often.

Is it basically WoW with better graphics?

There are a few differences :

1. Much better community, although that wouldn't be hard. Our local playgroup has a more mature community than WoW.

2. Storyline quests - some really good questlines that mirror the books, and are generally instanced adventures for a group.

3. No rep grinding required. You can grind rep if you want, but all it really does is give solo folks access to the same level of gear you get by grouping. It's not required to get into any areas etc.

4. Fewer classes, and generally less depth to them. Although they target two classes with each update and give them a makeover.

5. PvP is limited to a single large battleground at the moment, and is done via monster play. Read up on it, 's actually lots of fun.

Tbh there's not a lot between the two games, and the community is what swings it for me. That and the lord of the rings atmosphere. The devs seem to know the books backwards, the gameworld is really well realised.

i tend to keep quite up to date on these things but havent been able to find it anywhere.

has there been a concrete release date for the book 11 update yet or is it still just down at november?

also as a side note did anyone see the screen shots of the Balrog? how cool does it look!

i had a break from the game for a month , had the usual 'burnout' and just returned and loving it again .. cannot wait for the new Loremaster skills in the bk11
our kinship is just over two months from Rank 9 and still growing in numbers, most of us have been holding back from raids and end level epic's so we can go on just Kinship runs, which is a godsend from some awful PUG's with damn pesky Hunters hehe

as above, its a much more mature community, yes it has its idiots, but not that many which helps make the experience a pleasant one

Our Kin just hit lvl 8 so your a little ahead of us :)

at the moment we only seem to have about 10 lvl 50's thought there are a lot of mid 40 players so i guess we will soon start to have enough to be looking at doing raid runs.

seem to have spent a hell of a lot of time in carn dum recently and also cant tell you how many times i've done Book8 chapter5 "fall of mordrith" anyone would think im the only Minstrel in the kin! lol

I ding'd 20 with my Hunter alt last night after not using it for a while and replaying as a different class seems to be quite rewarding.

as a complete side note, i really hate ppl who undercut the market in the auction house :( had been selling a lot of bows at around 750s to 1g then some clown decides to sell some at around 400s completely devaluing the market!

rant over :P

nice one Loki, and i understand your plight at trying to sell stuff on the AH .. i recently hit GM scholar and just starting on tier 4 weaponsmith, nothing worse than crafting loads of gear and not making any cash back on it due to the market being flooded with really cheap stuff

Our Kin is the same , we have as many lvl 50's as yourselves and loads around 40+ so the sooner they level up the better, maybe we can arrange to do some raiding together with our kins someday ... were very casual and dont take it serious and prefer to have a laugh at the expense of dying lots hehe

peloquin is my LM @49 and tega is my guardian @50 , ill add you to the mates list later

ok nice one mate will no doubt be spending most of the night online today.

do a quick check with my main to see if anyone needs any help with anything and then try and put some levels on my hunter.

unless i get drafted into something in the ettenmoors my hunter mates seem to like the idea of their own personal Minstrel when their in there :P
