In an unexpected move, Midway Games has announced the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will no longer be released before the end of 2007. Previously, we expected the multiplayer shooter from Gears of War studio Epic Games to arrive in November, but Midway is saying first quarter 2008 now.

No reason was given for the delay in the announcement release, but 1UP confirmed with Midway this should have no impact on the release of the PC version, still scheduled to arrive in November. Given the first quarter timeframe, the latest we should see UT3 is before the end of March 2008.

Right, who wants an unused PS3 for £2?

Any takers?

This was the only game on PS3 i wanted this year, is Drakes Fortune out this year?

Josh

Argh, well, it still plays my DVD's very nicely and there is Warhawk, which i havnt touched for a month. I blame RP for getting better than me.

Ill still whip him up on Halo 3 any day. :p

Josh

P.S Didnt know Heroes was on DVD already! Is it out on Blu Ray?

What you mean another PS3 game delay!, next thing people will be saying MS have been paying developers to delay PS3 games on purpose - oops thats already been mention by various sites, lol

so what about PS3 exclusive rights to this then? its so exclusive you cannot play it this year.

I think it will still come out before the 360 version, but that was supposed to be Spring 2008. Exclusivity has kinda been thrown out the window on this one.

from Mark Rein on the Epic website

As a public company, Midway felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay. But our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007. However, we will only ship it once it’s ready and is the best game we can deliver. The PC version is still on track for a November release.

and also

So basically the ps3 version wont come out in november but has a chance to come out in december??

Mark Rein
Yes, there is a chance it will come out in December.

In addition there is some good news as well. A little extra time in development means that now the PS3 version will have all of the same maps as the PC version which wasn’t previously expected to be the case.

I don't mind waiting if we end up with a better version of the game, if they release a buggy POS they will never live it down...

that Mark Rein sounds like a right (pick your choice of word here), last thing he said was they couldn't have all the maps due to limitations, following this game has been like watching an epsiode of Eastenders with the amount of twists and backtracking going on, lol

I think he is great - comes accross as open and tells the public how it is - as and when new information comes out.

Midway CEO calls out technical issues with Unreal Engine for PS3 game delays

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Midway's CEO has called out technical issues with the Unreal Engine 3.0 for the company's delays with PS3 titles such as Strangelhold and Area 51: Blacksite which has been pushed back in its release by three weeks, while Strangehold is still slated for an unspecified fourth quarter release.

Quote:
Not long after Midway announced Unreal Tournament 3 would be moving out of the 2007 release timeframe on the PlayStation 3, Midway CEO David Zucker held a conference call to address how this would affect their financial situation through the rest of the year.
Zucker was very specific about the company's roadblocks on the PS3 platform, citing "technical issues with the Unreal Engine 3.0" with finishing work on the PS3 versions of Stranglehold and Area 51: Blacksite. Consequently, Area 51: Blacksite will be arriving three weeks after the Xbox 360 and PC versions drop at the end of October, while Stranglehold remains an unspecified fourth quarter release.
