hi guys i currently have sony 17inch lcd monitor i now looking to upgrade to a 22inch screen but can seem tho find any sony monitors anywhere have they stoped making them ?

They do still make them, mainly TFTs now though I think. :)

Any reason you're looking at Sony in particular?

buy what's best, if it's sony, so be it, if it's sammy, so be it.

Get the most for your money, vote no to brand loyalty!

jus like sony really most every electrical item i own is sony . sorry if its a stupid qustion but what is a tft

Sony aren't the best quality brand out there. I hope you don't have Sony audio products. In fact for Hi-Fi gear they're classed as one of the worst. Sony use Samsung panels...so much for Sony proprietary components.

Maybe not the best but one of the most consistant overall over their entire product range. Yes they do occasionally make lemons but percentage wise you have a far better chance of buying a good product if you just buy a Sony and not bother researching first.

Also I disagree with the HI-fi thing. Yes there are fantastic specialist hi fi makers out there who make wonderful hi fi products but Sony isn't one of the worse.

Look at the audio sections in the above link and you will see that Sony audio products get 4, 4.5, or 5 out of 5. Good results for "one of the worst" audio manufacturers.

tbh Sony have never really made any excellent desktop displays though....they are good, well built, good materials etc, but nothing staggering. They don't have the presence in the desktop display sector that others like Dell, Samsung and LG have

lol magazine ratings.

Yeah but if you are saying Sony are classed as one of the worst then on whose basis? Where's your proof?

Certainly not hifi magazines so perhaps just your persoanl opinion (which is fine but you should state that it is yours and not generalise) or did you do a personal pole of the uk? :p

Don't take offence, i'm just pulling your chain but seriously they tend to make above average products for above average prices. You can always find a better buy in either quality or price but if you don't research you can't go far wrong by just buying a Sony brand of anything (if you can afford it).

And Baddass, I presume you are just referring to tft's? Otherwise I will have to take issue with you as Sony made some excellent CRT screens, some of the best in fact.

Well if you compare Sony to those like Technics, Pioneer then all just a mash of low end gear. I would say Sony are better in video section, although gone downhill (Sony CRT's are not the end all as they used to be) As for Sony speakers, amps and CD players- and subwoofers, dire.

But certainly don't compare to the like of Rega, NAD, Rotel or the dozens of real Hi-Fi gear.

I seem to remember that Sony did an excellend 23" TFT. Was really disappointed when they EOLed all their monitors, as I quite fancied one.

No one here not remember the rootkit fiasco? I'm still boycotting Sony for that reason (not that I would buy Sony gear anyway as it isn't the best for anything).

I have a disagree slightly - when TFTs first started appearing, Sony made some excellent screens with brilliant quality. Sure, they cost double what everyone else's did but IMO they were the best.

Nowadays they're never going to compete with Samsung, Dell, and LG without dropping their prices - something Sony will never consider. So i'm totally with you on that point. :)

yeah but your quoting specialist hi fi people there which I was specifically avoiding due to the very specialised nature of hi fi. For example you used to be able to buy a record turntable for £2000 were the needle floated in magnets. Sounded absolutely fantastic but the needle only lasted 50 hours before replacement at £70 a pop . Now that was "specialist" stuff. I was comparing Sony to pioneer, hitachi, jvc etc and run of the mill hi fi people either complete systems or cinema surround sound.

Don't me wrong, i've got Denon cd player, nad amplifier, wharfdale speakers etc in my hi fi main setup cause I did my homework and bought the best of each in my budget. However I do have a 7 year Sony midi system which sounds great, full of features, one remote control for everything (unilke my main system) and can't fault it really for sound quality compared to what I paid for my sepeates system.

Although I have no personal experience of Sony speakers and subwoofers etc I do wonder why magazines still rate them so highly? Is it just cause they are Sony?
