Half Life 2

I always liked the bridge section..it felt high and dangerous going across the girders..thats when you have to have the death race with the train..I like the buggy section!

me too, the bridge section was awesome, especially when you're clambering over the girders like holy shizen, if i fall im dead :D and even if you have the music turned off, it still plays that eerie piece of music that just reminds me of being at a dizzying height lol.

i didnt mind the boat and buggy parts. although one thing i did hate, was the bugs coming out of the sand, getting across the whole sand part without landing on it was a bit tedious. obviously it got better when you had control of the bugs lol.

The buggy parts were good, they provided a change of scenery and atmosphere, and at times were just quite calming and 'fun', almost letting you temporarily escape from the action stuff.

I'll always remember one bit on the buggy part, where there's a truck laden with explosive barrels blocking the road. My housemates and I must have spent over half an hour just messing around with that, putting barrels in different places, making the explosion happen differently and so on. Funny stuff.

For me, the whole HL2 experience was awesome - I can remember getting off the train and spending a time in the station listening to the weird monologues! 'People get on, but they never leave....'

The atmosphere of City 17 is the best aspect of the game - and I think sound designers are the most underrated part of game development. Without the constant combine chirps and sirens, it wouldn't have been half as scary...

PC moment of all time? Easy. The tram journey at the beginning of HL1.

I can't play HL2 without getting serious headaches at times, sometimes even migraines :(

Good game though, although I really didn't like the bit where you have to use the river boat, that went on far too long.
Ditto, I got up to the part where you go into a mine?

I honestly want to give it another try, I've had it since day of release and I find it difficult to do long sittings like I've done in far cry etc . .

I'm fine with every other game, just get motion sickness from HL2 :\

I agree, they clearly put a lot of effort into using sound and voice to build and maintain the atmosphere and story. Voice acting was superb, and as you say, the CP/Combine radio noises were a very clever little detail.

I always remember the one from one of the tenements: "Was that you knocking? I didn't even know we still had a door..."

It actually annoyed/disappointed me a bit when I was watching my friend play HL2; he's a lot more impatient and just rushes through, ignoring what people are saying and generally failing to notice or take into account the little details. He still seemed to enjoy the game so that's all that counts, but for me, the attention to detail was what impressed me.

Just finished playing through Half Life 2 for the second time, first time was when it was first launched.

It's still a fantastic game I loved every minute of it, going to play through Ep.1 next as haven't played that yet, and then roll on Ep.2!
I actually found HL2 a bit dissapointing the 2nd time through. The first time I loved the hoverboat and buggy sections, but for some reason the 2nd time through they felt like a chore, dunno why exactly. Maybe the difference is knowing what's coming next. Funnily enough though I hated ravenholm (not least because it scared the **** out of me) the first time but enjoyed it the 2nd.

I found EP1 dissapointing though since it was devoid of any big set pieces or enough new elements and the scale of it was too small (no vehicles for instance, no big outdoor areas). EP2 looks a lot better though. I'm not sold on episodic content though, it's over in a day and soon forgotten.

I didnt like it much at first, didnt know what all the fuss was about but gradually got into it and now its my favourite game ever especially HL2 deathmatch!!!

The mavity gun has to be the best weapon ever made in a game and the crossbow the way it pins them against the wall  so good !!!

as mentioned above, ravenholme is one of the best sections. :D i also like "follow freeman" when you're fighting the striders in the square and from the rooftops.

last 2 levels with the super mavity gun spoil an otherwise great game. those levels just feel like a tech demo. :(

HL2 is definately my favourite game of all time. For me, the main reason i enjoy it so much is the sense of direction and progress. The way that the enviroment changes throughout. I could walk in on someone playing HL2 and know exactly where they are, where they've just been and where they are going next. If i walked in on someone playing bioshock, all i would know is that they are in a redy-purple room with a splicer running at them while they have about 12 bins/desks/bodies etc to search.

To the people who posted that they have completed 50%-60% of HL2 since it was released: delete your save game and start again. go through the whole game within a month and you will love it. I've spoiled games that way in the past. Loading save game to find myself stood in a street or corridor and no clue as to which direction i came from or where i'm meant to be going. Walking around for 15min trying to remember my objective, Save and turn off for another month. Repeat.
