Hmm I always try and avoid these kinds of threads but it's a pickle and I'm not sure which way to lean. First, a new article:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7026018.stm

Basically an eastern european trafficked into the country and sold to a pimp, resuced by the police and now fighting deportation. If she goes back she may get picked up again and forced back into 'the game'.

Thoughts? Once side of me says that she's been through hell and if she goes back she'll go through it again, so we should act as a safe haven for these people. However on the other hand people go through all kinds of hell across the world, should we take them all in?

Discuss.

dont matter what shes been through, they are not legally aloud to stay here, if it was up to other countrys like australia or tenerife they would be deported within hours of them being found, on the next plane back. Always with england they get their say they can fight it aload of bs as useral.

Where are you from Kuhan?

they should be afforded the same right and procedures as any other illegal immigrant who is found within the country, by due process.

whether those process's are "right" is another matter.

Agreed, deported back to the originating country. It's not fair to presume that the country they deported to should look after the person trafficked. Granted it's not a nice circumstance that they came to be in the UK, but why should we as a country have the moral obligation to feel sympathy?

Would the traffickee still be fighting deportation if she was sent to a pimp in a war zone, or a less-off country??

Well, I guess you could say because the industry that they were forced in to was happening in this country, and the disgusting people taking part in it and committing the acts described in the article are also residents of this country. It's only because such things exist in this country that they had these terrible experiences. Then again, similar acts take place in essentially every other country too.

I guess there's also just something that feels wrong about it. Brought here against her will, used and exploited by british men, then kicked out of the country to potentially start the cycle again?

Beyond that, I'm going to stay out of this, my views on borders, immigrants and such are pretty far removed from even the most liberal types I've seen here. It'll be better for my blood pressure :p

uncomfortable situation really, suppose you could do something where you gave a small share of the pimps assets and then packed them off again. i suppose they have 'earned' it.

I'd rather they were given the support they need back in their country of origin so that they don't fall prey to the traffickers after being sent back.

We have no obligation to keep them here.

I had exactly the same thoughts running through my head when I hit "post". :)

It's a minefield of a question and probably belongs in Speakers Corners to get the cream of opinion really. On one hand, the English public are partaking in the cycle of illegal prostitution by actually using them. However they should be punished by the police - not the taxman who invariably will be asked to recouperate costs of deportation from us - Joe TaxPayer. However on the other hand, the vast majority of English folk who don't make use of illegally trafficked prostitutes shouldn't have to endure any hardship for the criminal activities that go on.

Really, there should be a system in place between authorities and police in both "sending" and "receiving" countries that ensure these girls are a) deported but b) received and cared for, and allowed to get their lives and dignity back in the place of their birth without fear of reprisals. If they want to apply for citizenship abroad after that then yes, so be it - however appplication for citizenship should not be done under the guise of fear of being re-trafficked, which is amountable to emotional blackmail IMO.

Agreed. Work on stopping the trafficking gangs in Britain, and let the police forces in Europe work on it their end.

Send them back. As cold as it may sounds, it's not our problem what goes on in their country.
But since these girls are trafficked here because people in this country want to use prostitutes (whatever happened to British prostitutes?), it is partly our problem. The issue though is stopping the trafficking gangs at both ends.

So we should stop any sort of charity of foreign relief that distributes aid outside of this country?

Like others have said, I think I'm going to have duck out of this one as it's only going to contain opinions that make me dispair at how some of you view other people.
