I quite fancy either a TomTom XL with the larger screen or the new V3 as I'm in the market for a satnav device.

Any recommendations from owners as to which and the cheapest place to get them these days?

Cheers

in the same boat, gonna pick one of these up later today after my TomTom700 got nicked, it seems there pretty much the same to be honest. but the new V3 is nice and slim, handy for chucking in your pocket.

I have just been checking funtioanlty of them both, seems they both support the plus services (travel etc) which is good, im guessing they use bluetooth for that although I cant find it on the site, neither model can do mobile calls though, which my 700 could do, shame.

Actually I just bought a refurbished TomTom 700 with 12 month warranty!

£140 which seemed like a good deal as it has all the european maps, carry cases, accessories etc which you have to addon with the cheap TomTom One

:)

I would like a Sat Nav system too, but with so many around, Im stumped :(

Would like it to have European maps on too, specifically france :)

The Tom Tom plus services are not available on the Tom Tom One V3 due to them dropping the Bluetooth connectivity from it, so no live traffic functionality. The V3 doesn't have Itinerary planning, which will bother delivery drivers, and doesn't have the ability to upgrade the mapping to Europe at a later date, due to them removing the memory card slot. Although it does have it's advantages as it reduces data corruption.

If your not fussed about the larger 4.3" screen, live traffic and the ability to upgrade the mapping at a later date then go for the Tom Tom V3.

Hope this clears things up.

Both the Tom Tom One V3 and Tom Tom One XL are available with European mapping as standard.

Look out for the Tom Tom Go V3 WE and the Tom Tom One XL Europe.

I forgot to mention the Tom Tom One V2 has all the benefits of the One XL bar the widescreen and can be had for less than £150.

I know my store still has some for the V2's left.

well I went to pick one up last night, it was between

TomTom One V2 - £149.97

TomTom One XL - £179.97

reading the back of the box they both seemed to be identical, I plumped for the V3 in the end as it was so thin and light, easy to chuck in your pocket.

Got it home and it all seemed fine, until I tried to conenct it to TomTom Traffic. It flashed up with a message saying I needed to attach it to a RDS adaptor, couldnt believe it, looked on the website and these things are £70  plus you have to have some daft lead comin gout of the unit.

Looking at the tech specs it only says TomTom plus compatable, no mention of this only being with adaptor, cant believe it doesnt have a bluetooth connector. I have checked online and it seems the XL does have bluetooth 2.0 in the specs, so I am going to go back today and swap it for that model.

Other then that its really great, so much lighter then my old unit, nice screen, very quick to work out routes and its all pre programmed with speed cameras etc right out the box.

edit - just come back with TomTom One XL, much bigger screen and the maps come on a memory card instead of built in. and it has bluetooth built in.

all in all well worth the extra £30 over the V3

I have just bought a V4 from tesco for 149 quid. The updated one has the bluetooth and the expansion card back. Also get free speed camera update with it too :)
