Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before but I am considering a CPU, mobo and memory upgrade. I have an overclocked Radeon 9800 pro which is fine for my game playing needs but it's AGP and all the new mobo's seem to be PCI-E. Is there any backwards compatibility or will I need to upgrade my graphics card too ?

Thanks.

Andy

There are PCI-E/AGP and indeed AGP only mobos out there - but they're not much cop. IMO, you'd be better off buying a decent PCI-E board and buying a cheapo PCI-E graphics card (which is still going to better than 9800) to go with it. You're going to be looking at a £300 quid spend, why not spend the extra £30 and not saddle yourself with legacy tech?

Thanks for the reply. Gosh is a 9800 Pro really a museum piece already ? So what sort of thing should I be looking for if I budget for say £100 ? Can I get DX10 compatibility for that ?

Thanks again

Yer the 9800 pro belongs in a museum tbh lol sorry, my best bet for you would be a 8600 either 512MB or a 256MB its a DX10 card as you asked for and most of them are below and just above the £100 mark

You can but the fastest card for £100 will be the X1950 Pro. It doesn't have Dx10 support but is quicker than all the 8500/8600 series. :)

Oh, and the 512MB version is on special offer.
