As title, really. The girlfriend wants a cheap package with a monthly contract. This Newnet package seems unbeatable at the moment! I'm with them on Home S (i think) and their support etc. is superb. Really cant fault them at all, which is why i recomended them to her.

But are there any other cheaper packages out there? She'll just be using it for the ocassionally email and browsing, so i guess a slower speed/unlimited package might work too.

Also, how long should it take for a migration? Her account will be ceased on the 7th Nov so i'm trying to advise her on when to order her new package.

Cheers

you got her old isp to cease the line? Bad move, the best way is to migrate with a MAC which automatically cancels the old ISP account. I'm not sure how long it will take otherwise

as mentioned above, if you cease you'll have to pay 40 odd quid connection and wait a good 10 days or so with no net. mac is free and downtime of a few minutes.... :p

as for the package, i don't think you'll find anything better. they seem to be a decent isp from what i've read over at adslguide.

Yup Be gets my vote also however I'm not sure they do a Monthly contract?

Be Value is the IKEA of ISP's, I'm well pleased with my service so far (despite it taking an extra 2 weeks to get connected!).

It may also be worth pointing out that the Be packages don't include any pop email accounts as standard. If your Girlfriend uses something like Hotmail then this point is mOOt?

Sorry. It's not being *ceased* that's just when her contract runs out. She already has her MAC code from her old supplier but is waiting until a bit closer to the time so she doesnt technically pay twice in one month. (Hence me asking how long the migration takes; when should she order with her new provider?)

I looked at Be* but they dont seem to do any packages with a monthly package. She definately wants this. The only others with a monthly contract are the Entanet resellers which are all supposed to be good, but are more expensive than Newnet. Hey ho, i guess it's Newnet then. I've been with them since April and they've been superb so all is good

The MAC only has a life of 30 days and it must be valid at the point when the new ISP places the order with BT for her.

It does not have to be valid after that and most ISPs will let you specify a date for the migration to take place so that means you don't have to guess how long it will take.

As a rule though the majority of migrations will go through on a 5 working day lead time unless you ask for something longer.

So she can say to her new ISP that she wants to migrate on a specific date, and thus be billed from then? I was aware the MAC is only valid for 30 days, she just doesnt want to pay twice in the same month. So specifying a date would work, if i'm understanding correctly? :)

Yes, correct.

Depends on the new ISPs willingness to do that but most will do for exactly the reason you say.

I suggest that she does overlap by at least a couple of days though as her old ISP may end up billing her again if you cut it too fine.
