Ok, so i'm sat here listening to my now expansive MP3 colleciton thinking: "Hmm, I like this music, I may as well see if anyone thinks it's any cop". Frankly, i'm sure most of you couldn't give a badgers nadgers, and some of the bands here you'll either love, hate, or feel indifferent to, but each to their own eh?

However for those that are curious as to the sort of stuff floating round here let me list ten songs I think represent some of the best music the UK currently has to offer...

Song Title/Band

----------------------------------------------

1) Blood, The Editors http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=14tJhhHcv0E

This band for me are one of the best produced in the last few years... a highly distinctive sound followed by some of the most lyrically competent, stirring vocals around.. Their album, The Back Room, is WELL worth a download. I can't wait to see these guys live.

----------------------------------------------

2) Starlight, Muse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-c94VVU7zc

ANother great band... relatively new in the grand scheme of things, but they have produced some great tracks, foremost in my opinion of which is the track I have linked above, Starlight. Their album, Black Holes and Revelations, is a good listen.

----------------------------------------------

3) You Know I'm No Good, Amy Winehouse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8TwNEDo6kY

Ok, everyones heard of this girl heard of this girl... and me I think she is currently the hottest thing since... er... a long time. With a soulful voice not heard in ages, this girl is currently winning Best Artist left, right and centre. Her album, Back to Black, is simply one of the best albums I have ever heard in my life.

----------------------------------------------

4) I Want You Now, The Feeling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3nwW5VshFI

Ahh The Feeling... one of those bands I can listen to no matter what mood i'm in... rarely have I heard an album where EVERY song is just so... listenable, they really do suit every mood. Their album, Twelve Stops and Home, is one of my firm favourites.

----------------------------------------------

5) Heat Dies Down, Kaiser Chiefs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPNKxtnQtaw

Kaiser Chiefs, Kaiser Chiefs! These guys are ****ing awesome, and have a VERY British sound. Listen to their lyrics, each song is sheer quality. One of my favourite bands at the moment, if not ever, and I hope to see them soon. Their album Yours Truly, Angry Mob is absolute genius, I HIGHLY reccommend downloading it!

----------------------------------------------

6) Forever Lost, The Magic Numbers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s29S51KSbiQ

This band are just so... what's the word... nice? One of the most "easy-listening" bands i've heard in a long time, hell even your grandma will hum while she defecates all over her seat. Their album, imaginatively titled: The Magic Numbers, is a firm favourite.

----------------------------------------------

7) Chasing Cars, Snow Patrol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxXwIIBlSgw

Ok imo these guys are huge, and just keep pumping out anthem after anthem, they're almost unstoppable. Some times a bit moody and melancholy, but their second album, Eyes Open, should be in everyones collection.

----------------------------------------------

8) America, Razorlight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASuI34exHlE

Love or hate them, Razorlight are one of those bands you end up liking their songs anyway. A collection of catchy anthems that have made them very successful in the UK, this track is one of their bggest, and their album, Razorlight, has a fair few good tracks on it.

----------------------------------------------

9) Stop Me, Mark Ronson (featuring Daniel Merriweather) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4kBr5WWiBM

Mark Ronson is currently cooking up a storm here in the UK, collabarating with the hottest artists around to produce a whole slew of great tracks, of which the above is my favourite, as it makes me want to make sexy time with boys and girls alike. His album, Version, is great to stick on before you go out.

----------------------------------------------

10) Blinded By The Sun, The Seahorses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mkgYFCDrqM

Ok i'm cheating a little here, these aren't a current band. In face they split up AGES ago. But repeat after me: JOHN SQUIRES. The guy is (imho) one of the greatest guitarists EVER to have lived, and The Seahorses are possibly my all-time favourite group. I love EVERY track on their album, and for me it hasn't ages, which is the highest accolade I can ever give. Their album, Do It Yourself, is a work of genius, and very British. Listen to it, please.

----------------------------------------------

Ok, well I hope that's given you a good taste of what i'm surrently listening to... many of you will be thinking "WTF is up with Richdogs taste in general" but I hope others will listen to the music who haven't had much exposure to some of the bandsd think "Hmm actually... that's not damn bad at all".

Either way, i'm off to get a beer (well, cider actually). Enjoy... or not.

JOHN SQUIRES!? And who is he? I only know of a John Squire ;).
I agree it was a good album, but not really to my taste now. Love is the Law is another good (albeit gratuiously long) track off that.

I think that an Arctic Monkeys track would feel right at home representing current British Music, as would a Bloc Party track, alas, it's your list : ).

To be fair I never heard their previous album... :o

Go find the tunes:

Stockholm Syndrome
Hysteria
Citizen Erased
Time is running out
Muscle museum
Sunburn
Plug in Baby
New Born
Showbiz
Sing for Absolution
Blackout
Butterflies and Hurricanes

And go and have a listen they are some of my faves.

to me that looks like what I would expect to find on radio 1, i'm sick of this current trend of music, even if some of you disagree that it is a trend

IMO

By your logic you could call 99% of music a trend all through the decades a trend? Just because it's popular doesn't mean people are sheep. There are a lot of genuinely good bands around today.

theres allot of great bands about but im loving British electronic music a HELL of allot at the moment too

that list seems more the trendiest of current british music to me :p

True, but i don't think i'd put Razorlight, The Feeling and The Editors among them :p

The Editors are an immense sound... and universally and critically acclaimed at the moment. Razorlight i'm not massively keen on, but also very popular at the moment and also rated highly by some big critics. The Feeling is just a sound I personally really like listening to.

It's all down to personal opinion, i'd wager a lot of what you like I would deem cack too. :)

That list does not represent the best of British anything, apart from perhaps "Best of people that should be on the dole because they can't make a living out of music anymore".

No Thom Yorke/Radiohead - that I am very suprised about, or something a little more different like M.I.A?? Your list is ok, but isnt very diverse - wheres the hip hop/electronic music?

Quoting even though Richdog defends the point quite well.

However, there's much more to British music than the above list of what Radio one plays all day on repeat. (Snow Patrol and Kaisers I'll agree with you on mind.)

P.s. Go buy Origin of Symmetry and cry at how terrible Black Holes actually is.
