i would like to take the time to say a few words

THIS IS NOT A WILLY WAVING OPPORTUNITY!!!

ok, now that i have got that out of my system, ill begin.

i tried played doom 3 last night on my new rig.

setup:

q6600 @ 3.2
4gb geil ull
8800gtx oc2
dell 2407

settings include:

everything maxxed out
1920x1200
ultra quality and 16x anti-alising

it runs slightly sluggish but not 100% smooth

dropped the AA down to 8 and hey-presto, 100%

what setup would i need to play it at everything maxxed out

on sli, even i cant push that game to 16x without suffering from time to time lol

most games dont like 16x aa as you could have guessed. only games i can get away with it are games that run from the source engine.

Not always, 8x AA still looks better than 4x on low resolutions ( on TDU @ 1024x768 there are still quite a lot of jaggies present on some cars).

If you have an 8800GTX (heck even a 8800GTS) then why would you be gaming at 1024x768 is what I always wonder in these FSAA debates.

The next gen cards will have free 4xFSAA so there will be no more FSAA debating tbh.

I have never ran a game with AA enabled, what's the advantages?

Left is 4xFSAA right is no FSAA

^the thing is, when you are running around in game at 100% speed you probably would be hard pushed to notice many jaggies in those screenshots with the exception of the pillars sillhoueted against the sky.

i went a entire year with a 7800, discovered AA a month before i sold it, at first, i wasnt to sure on the point of it, then i read into it, and looked past the game its self to the detail, ever since, i cant play a game with jaggies lol

at a res of 1600x1200 or 2048x1536, aax4 is MORE than enough, anything more and i dont see the point.
