Losing £10k+ on pension payments (which RM havent been paying their contributions into the pension plan for years) is the main bugbear with people, not a pay rise. Yes 4 days out for some people is gonna hurt very hard specially those with kids and mortgages but you have to stand up for what you believe.

Like most government owned businesses its top heavy with managers, pen pushers, jobsworths and people with fancy titles that dream up crazy schemes that they implement because it sounds good, not because it works.

Theres no way in hell id cross the line over the next few days, for those that do: Sausage Chips And Beans!

For those expecting some thing through the post unfortunately your are gonna have to wait, and wait for a long time, for example the last single day strike took almost a week to catch up the backlog in a large mail centre.

Im going to town now, and on the picket line for a while. After I see whats just landed through my door (strike officially starts at noon)

Thats bullturd yeh?

EDIT - rofl, i thought it was all royal mail in general, didnt occur to me it was from the shop.

they only failed as a result of the CWU not being rational or amicable, there was no trying on the side of the CWU, it was basically:
'pay us more money and dont make job cuts for the modernisation of a company still in the 1900'sor we'll strike'

'ok hows x ammount more per hour?'

'pay us more or we'll strike'

'thats as much as we can'

'ok, we strike cos were money hungery ******* who dont care about the long term welfare of our members'
Excuse me but how do you know thatthe talks failed because of the CWU? Are you privvy to information thats not being shared with the rest of us?

Are you in my house? My mail has just plopped through the door :D

What they are doing to the pensions is scandalous. But hey, we're striking for a £8 a week pay rise aren't we

If they carry on like they are they will be lucky to get £8 a week never mind on top of the salary.

Can they not see they are damaging the business they work!

The issue tho is that it isn't about the money paid - its the problem with the pension deficit, Flexible working hours, 40,000 jobs being cut, changes to the redundancy packages, the removal of Nightshift on delivery, later starting times.

I don't agree with the idea of striking, but I can certainly understand why people make that choice, its just a pity that the CWU did not go through all the options. As for the comment above regarding scabs - please. Since myself and my missus work at RM, if I don't go to work, I lose my house. Simple as that - look at the biggr picture before you throw around comments like that.

On this note, this will be my last post on this thread, as discussion seems to be coming to an end and personal insults are starting.
I won't knock someone who is on the breadline and simply HAS to work, chances are that they aren't in for the long run anyhow. Striking isn't an option taken lightly, especially in this day and age where mortgage payments are ridiculously high. But if you do cross a picket line you're still letting your colleagues down and have to accept that they'll not thank you for it.

Thats not our concern. We're fighting for our concern, it's a shame that the top brass don't have the same ******** when it comes to fighting Postcomm and the Government and getting a level playing field with the competition.

Those striking are letting everyone else down. Rollins has far more support from me than those striking would, and I hope his responsibility is recognised by those he works for in future :)

Of course it is your concern, if you drive the business into the ground the chances are redundancies will follow to recoup some cash, or worse the business will close. Now I admit I can't envisage RM/PO not existing but surely you can see the damage that is being caused.

People are already looking for other ways to send there items, RM needs to move with the times.

It's not your concern if your employers can't compete, can't make money and ultimately can't stay in business?

That's exactly the sort of thinking I'd expect from someone supporting a union led strike, and exactly the sort of thinking that's killed large sections of British business and manufacturing.

Short-termism at it's very best.

surely you (the striker) is letting down all the colleagues crossing the picket line. they are having to work harder to cover the selfish dispicable behaviour of the striker

Nice to see someone else shares the same point of view as me.
