My phone line is always busy because majority of our time we spend by calling clients at all times, we need to recieve the phone calls so I was thinking of using Skype in, what do you guys reckon?

Any of you guys using it or not for your business or the companies you work?

Mainly because ,my phone line will be busy all the time so if I will divert all my incoming calls to my Skype and have an additional number through Skype so I can answer it and my two collegues too.

So is it adviseble?

Skype is VOIP in a way, but it's not a proper business-class service IMO. I just know voiptalk are excellent for us - another option for you :)

also try looking at sipgate or entanet as a business class voip provider. however if you decide with the entanet provider you will most likely have to go through one of its broadband providers ie adsl24, vivaciti, tianadsl, aquiss ect ect.

I can't afford to get another line (trying to keep the expence low) so that is why I want to use VOIP as this is the only cheaper alternative

So if you have a network of Computers will yo be able to transfer calls?
Not sure, but you can hook multiple computers up to the same account. Not used the advanced features of Skype much so it might handle that better. But for what we do, which is incoming calls & diversion to e-mailed voicemail when we're all busy, it works great.

Pretty sure you can have multiple computers calling out at the same time, too.

The only snag is finding decent VOIP software - I think Skype wins that one easily, although that's only an issue if you're not using VOIP phones of course.

Does the speed of broadband make any difference to the quality of VOIP?

Yes, though it depends on your use.

If you're talking to Gran, a bit of jitter or odd poor call quality probably isn't going to matter. If somebody kicks off a big download and max's out your connection then the VoIP traffic is going to suffer.

If it's regular business use, then a QoS enabled DSL service comes into it's own (with associated cost).

Also you may want to consider signing up with a business class broadband service with at least 832k upload.

Why upload?

You need to send your voice to the client so you need a highish upload if you want to use the net while talking on multiple skypes. However I found using just skype on my PC uses 20 kilobytes sec

Also wouldnt it be better to call out on skype and leave the main line for people to call in, that way if you net goes **** up your customers can still reach you

Skype is a dreadfull service v laggy and echos all the time! Sign up with sipgate and you will see the bigger picture.
with sipgate you recieve your own telephone number for free and if you dont have any credit then you can still recieve phone calls and skype charge you for having a phone number!

Hw many lines can you have for example, if you are busy with a phone call, does your number get diverted to another Sipgate number service, what I mean is, if there is 2 callers calling you at the same time and you are engaged on a phone call what happenes to the other phone callers, meaning if I have a receptionist she could answer and patch the call through my other collegues, is that possible?
