ive always liked the gt but couldnt be arsed with a 1.9 diesel or two litre petrol. the 3.2v6 is now in my price range tho (04) and will be even less when i am looking to change next year.

has anyone any experience of these, uber rare here in ireland due to crazy motor tax (based on engine cc :() are they quick? how do the front wheels handle the power? i assume the engine itself is pretty reliable, i can live with the alfa isms of the rest of the car

Not quick, chassis cannot handle the power, doesn't handle but...

omg it looks absolutely beautiful.

Typical Alfa really. Looks gorgeous but as a drivers car will dissapoint, especially after your 530i. Take one for a drive though, you might like it.

My god you had something useful to say.;)

Haven’t had the opportunity to drive one myself, but the interior is to die for.
Clarkson said they handled very well (not that you should take that as gospel)

Seriously, go and drive one. Alfas split opinion, some people will swear they are amazing beyond anything else and others will not have a single good word to say about them.

Pull up to the Alfa dealer in your car and I guarauntee they'll let you take one out.

It’s a likeable car, the GT. Dynamically, it still falls some way short of a 3-series, but it offers a fine mix of style, performance, practicality and, crucially, enough chassis competence to make it a valid coupé choice

Has to be worth a spin.

ill go test drive a few, main problem is that id say they sell 1 of these for every 50 jtds in ireland so not any around to drive!

If you're a rear wheel drive fan you prolly won't like it, but if you know how to drive a front wheel drive car properly you'll appreciate the handling.

The power is spread all over the rev range, and it sounds awesome.

Ugly cars tbh :D

If you have troouble tracking one down consider joining the alfaowner.com website and see if someone in your area can give you a spin!

amazing engines, unfortunatly the chassis and weight of the car lets it down, i have the 2.5v6 in my 156 and its well ballanced, but given the choice id go for the 3.2.... purely coz i could!

Main downer is that the components don't last. So you'll be replacing bit and pieces almost throughout the life of the car as opposed to say a Honda where you don't have to worry about anything until 100K plus. The V6 is a difficult car to work on too - it hasn't an incredibly tight engine bay - and many things aren't in an easily reachable or "seeable" position, so labour costs will probably be higher over the life of the car.

They drive and handle okay - but its really a tweaked 147/156 chassis - so its really a GT than a true sports coupe like the Nissan 350Z. Ride quality was crashy on the one with 18" rims that I tried. It was particularly poor at dealing with potholes and sharp ridges. Fine on smoother roads though.

I considered one when I bought my 323i coupe but went Beemer in the end because the GT was a bit too new (and thus out of my price range) at the time. Thought the Alfa was stunning to look at, but the 323i had a better ride/handling balance. Hasn't been a cheap car to run though....
