These 2 cards plz help me decide

Either card will be fine for a year or two. At the point when a GTS becomes unplayable, a GTX will be pretty poor also. If your money is hard earned, go for the GTS. If it is disposable get the GTX.

1. I'd always get the latest drivers as they tend to give better performance

2. A bit late if it doesn't :p Seriously the GTX are very long cards and in a lot of cases they won't fit without moving the hard drive cage or cutting a slot in it . Not familiar with your case but in mine I would have to.

3. I'm not not lost anymore........;)

where should i get the drivers from nvidias site or let vistas automatic update get them?

no top end card would be overkill at low res (1280x1024 even at 800x600).. it would just last the person a lot longer... simple as that......

I wouldn't. Vistas auto download gfx drivers seem to have cause lots of problems if you seqarch the threads on here.

ok cheers, ive dl the latest drivers the 163.69 ready for when my card arrives.

What sort of performance increase should i see against my current card the x1900xtx.

I don't rate either card or the gtx which seems to get around 10-15fps more on crysis beta than the 8800 gts.I own a 640mb gts and it just doesn't warrant it's price tag what happened to the days when £250 would let you max games out even pes6 1680-1050 with aa af is sluggish.
get the cheapest 8800 gts 320mb you can then get a real dx10 card when they come out something that will eat crysis for breakfast.
My 8800 gts 640mb @ 650/1800 can't even run cs source with all aa af off 1680-1050 in acceptable levels to me just straffing left and right feels heavy and slow.

not upgrading is a very stupid thing to do.

£200 gts, £300 gtx? and then refuse to upgrade for 3 years, being low res you'd probo get a year at top settings, poss more, probably less for some games.

you could buy a gts for £200 now, then in 6 months, sell the gts for £150, and buy a £200 next gen high(mid) end card, being, of the high end 3, the middle one) costing you £50, having much better performance than the 8800gtx for still £50 cheaper.

then 6 months to a year later doing the same, so in a year to 18 months you would have spent £300 finally, but be 1-2 generations ahead of the 8800gtx. NEVER pay the premium for the top end version, its ridiculous on almost all computer items to do so. never say you won't upgrade, in reality it will take you 5 mins to post a for sale thread, 20 mins to pack, and 5 mins to post, 1 minute to order a new card and about 5 mins to install. so for a half hours effort every 6 months to a year you can maintain the top end pc gaming experience, for the same/less than the cost of a top end gfx card every three years :o

i've done this, for most of my parts for 5 years, i spend the same or less than most of my friends/family who think buying a £1500-2000 computer every 3-4 years is the best way. but i always have the fastest rig about for gaming.

not upgrading costs you more in the long run, and gives you considerably less value for money.

i agree with the guys who advise on 8800 320mb.......this card will happily play most games with max detail @1280 res for some time to come.
you will save half your money...by the time the card starts struggling you could buy something better than the 8800gtx.

but tbh i would rather get a nice 22" tft and get the 8800gts 320mb....will cost a little extra but should easily be worth it.

If i cant play games at max settings at 1280x1024 with my new graphics card ill be very annoyed.

:D. I can play it max settings at 1440x900 or 1360x768 @ 70 - 90 FPS. I was only having problems with 1680x1050 with my X1900XT and 1gb of DDR. This is with no forced AA or AF though and it was only the 1st quarter of the game as I've not played it that much.

Your 8800GTX destroys your XTX and I can still get a decent looking game past XTX speeds so I think you will be ok but only just (sarcasm/joke) :p.

:DITS ARRIVED:D

Looking at it now and all i can say is it huge, i wont have time today to fit it.
So im gonna be up early tomorrow to play with my new toy.

On my x1900xtx i get a score of 6124 on 3dmark06, so its got me curious what ill get now.

Rough guess approx double :)

How do uninstall the drivers that vista done for me. Shall i use device manager and right click on the graphics card and choose uninstall. Then use my driver cleaner program ive got?

Cheers in advance:)
