2007 Chinese GP - Race 16/17

He shouldnt have been so bloody close to be honest... if he did it on the road what would his excuse be??

"er well the car at the front of the traffic was hitting 30 in a 30 and 40 in a 40 and they a kid jumped out, all the cars slowed down but i hit the car infront because i had no warning and he was a inch away from me"

strongly doubt it would stand up...

If he kept a nice distance, its safety car so no over taking so no excuse for been so bloody close you cant overtake so why try get close enough to do so...

stupid to be honest...

It dosnt matter to him if hamilton gets docked all his points or not, not going to make a difference to his poor season...

Yeah but then using that, surely Hamilton shouldn't have been so close to the safety car?

You'd think, but its in the rules that the car in 1st pos has to be within 5 meters of the safety car at all times, but to be honest, when is the safety car ever gonna mess up, its his job to do what he does, and with the cars they drive, it would be hard to mess up. So the F1 cars are safe been that close to it.

But i totally agree he shouldnt be that close, it shouldnt be allowed.

And Hamilton apparently saying that he would consider leaving F1 due to all the background politics? Don't make me laugh!

Hamilton is big in America. A move over there would be an easy choice.

Showers forecast for Sunday! Thunderstorms according to BBC weather!

Erm. His earning power would be greatly reduced. If you want to maximise your exposure and earning power, then you stay in F1. Michael Schumacher showed this, where for a number of years, he was the world's highest paid sportsperson.

If you look back over the years, you will find when a driver does very well in US Cart racing, the driver attempts to get a transfer to F1. Michael Andretti (who came over to F1 as probably the best driver in the US, got hammered by Ayrton Senna), kicked this off. Jaques Villeneuve continued this trend. In recent times, the only guy who transferred over to US Cart racing from F1 was Nigel Mansell, who immediately won the Indycar title in his first year. He wanted to return, but there just wasnt room for him.

F1 is the pinnacle of motor sport.

:D Please tell me you meant that!

Andretti gets a bad press about 93. Granted a lot of it is his own fault - by refusing to live in Europe he found himself squeezed out of testing by Senna and Hakkinnen so didn't get to learn the circuits or the car. However if you look at the opening lap of Donington up to the point where he was punted by Wendlinger he had made up the same number of places as Senna.

Well he came back for 4 races with Williams. He won one race (Schummy took himself and Hill out).

Williams then said that Mansell would not join them for 1995.

Then he joined McLaren for 1995, but he couldnt fit into the car, so they widened it. But this caused a problem in that car wasnt that fast. Mansell and McLaren were not happy with eachother then parted ways after a few races.

After the above, no one wanted to hire him. All the places in the top teams were taken.

OK Fine. Donnington was a short race for him but he did ok in that. But that doesnt make up for his consistently poor performance everywhere else. He was consistently slower than Senna. Now, when Senna was at Williams, with Hill as his team mate, Hill was always within a few tenths of Senna. Andretti on the other hand made it look as if Senna was in a totally different car to him.

It was the "wasn't room" comment that got me. Very ironic that the silf-like Mark Blundell managed fine in the original car. The MP4/10 had some very radical ideas - the agressively high nose and the high mounted wing to create a high pressure area over the the airbox vent. Shame it was a complete pup.

I wholly agree that Andretti was a failure but there were sparks of talent there. He had the opportunity to do well and turned it down.

But surely NASCAR would be his destination if he went to the States? Since the break up of IndyCar, Cart and IRL are backwater events compared to the 'Good ol Boys' banger racing spectacle.

I could imagine Lewis doing just that as I think he'd earn a few bob over there. But only with an F1 title or two under his belt.

Plus, I'm quite surprised to see a Lewis backlash developing in these GP threads lately. A few months back such heresy was severely frowned upon. As a result of this, I'm starting to like him... :D

Hehehe, I remember that 3rd wing they had. Everybody thought (before season start), that it was going to be revolutionary and that it woudl allow McLaren to beat everyone. The rest as they say is history. IIRC, they abandoned that mid wing before the end of the season. Anyway, its all history now.

Erm. His earning power would be greatly.... SNIP.... pinnacle of motor sport.

I was just pointing out that it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that Hamilton may leave F1 if he decided. Its not like he would be unemployed. Plus i read this week he is predicted to earn £1bn over his life time if his current success continues. Whether he earns £1bn or £500m - he wont care. He wants to win. If he isn't happy with F1 there are plenty of places that will have him... and will let him have it his own way.
