7950GX2 £90 a good deal?

Dont look like it beats a GTS.
In a lot of cases it does Will.

I'm speaking from direct experience too.

The GX2 was so close in performance to the 8800GTS 640mb that i had to go for the GTX to beat it when i upgraded. My GX2 had a swiftech spacer and two zalman fatal1ties fitted which allowed me to overclock as if it was under water.

Excellent cards - ironically, pretty much all the reviews you see use early immature drivers so SLi didn't function properly.

I used some of the later drivers for oblivion and stalker and the GX2 was simply awesome.

Seems like they a good buy then? I might flog my 2900XT and get a GX2 if it works on my P5N-E SLi?

Dont look like it beats a GTS.

From the links

COD 2: Beats by a mile
Quake 4: Beats
BF2: Beats
Prey: Beats
Oblivion: 8800 GTS wins
HL2: Just beaten by the 8800 GTS but close
FEAR: Matches or beats depending on res
AGe of Empires 3: 8800 GTS wins (by a long way)
Need for SPeed Most Wanted: 8800 GTS wins except at very high res
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: Beats by a mile and almost matches the GTX

So which bit of the charts I linked to did you not understand?

At the end of the day you have a card here for £90 which is less than half the price of a 8800 GTS and in more games than not (from the linked ones) beats the 8800 GTS and in some by miles and in others is almost as quick as a GTX and you don't think that is a good or even possible?

You think it would be worth flogging the 2900 for a GX2?

No.... see my earlier post, I upgraded from 2 OC'd 7900GT's to a 2900, if the 2900 was not better it would be in the MM by now.

Most of those benchmarks are a year old using early 8800 divers with older games getting average frame rates of 100+ there isn't much to seperate the cards out.

The 7950GTX is the smart choice unless you can't afford that much or you want the very best (8800GTX/Ultra). Personally, if I hadn't gone for a 8800GTX, the 7950GTX would have grabbed me. To be honest, I should have bought that anyway as it would have saved me a lot of money and given reasonably close performance.

I'd probs give it a go if I still had a GTS/2900 I would have a nice lump of cash left over to spend on hookers and beer. :)

The hookers or the beer? ;)

The beer has -ve ram, more beer you have, the more memory loss you get...

and the hooker, well, that all depends on the model, i've heard the welsh models have a fair bit of ram... ;)

(1gb on the gfx cards...)
