2007 Chinese GP - Race 16/17

I think McLaren have got him for life as well to be honest. He will be a marketing machine over night. Everyone will want to sponsor McLaren!

Easy tiger.

When Bennetton won 2 world titles with Michael Schumacher, they might've thought the same, but he left. Similarly, when Renault won 2 world titles with Alonso, they couldve thought the same, but he left. Similarly Ayrton Senna left McLaren. I can go on, but you get the picture. Circumstances can change and in F1 the future is never certain.

I can't imagine what the McLaren boys have prepared just in case he secures the championship title tomorrow  He ******* deserves it if he does pull it off IMO.

I still think Lewis knows his own mind and will (with the help of his dad) follow his own course. If he dominates with McLaren then Ferrari will eventually come knocking. McLaren are a big name in F1, but the prancing horse is a global thing. That's where the real money and global status will be found.

its a ongoing joke about ralf schumacher, who claimed that he was the 3rd best driver in the world after his brother and alonso......:p

Joke?!

I'm gonna miss Ralf when Toyota boot him out the door and slam it shut behind him. Who will be the F1 community's next object of ridicule?

I think that he means that what offer he ever gets mclarren will beat it... which will probably be right... i cant see hamilton wanting to leave, he has worked with ron for like 8 years?

There good friends and close work associates now, i cant see hamilton wanting to join a rival team, which will be the only option as they are the only competetive cars... also, the money will swing him easily, and i think that when they loose alonso he will get a lot more money...

I think Senna joined Mclaren in 1988 and stayed with them for 5yrs. However, in 1992, he was so desperate to move to Williams (who at the time had the best car), he offered to drive for Williams for free.

What Im saying is that Ron Dennis is not his father or a family member. They are obviously close, but are none the less work colleagues. Sometimes, to be successful in your profession, you have to forget your emotions and be ruthless (just like Senna, just like Alonso who got on very well with Briatore, just like MS who got on very well with Briatore). Even Mansell left Lotus, when Collin Chapman was like a father to him.

In this sport, if you let emotions rule your actions, then in this day and age, you wont be the sort of guy who will be successful. Make no doubt about it, Hamilton is not Mr Nice Guy. He is ruthless when he needs to be. If you dont believe me, then check out some of the moves he was putting on his own team mate last week in Japan, during the SC periods. You will also see some ruthlessness from him in the years to come.

Senna, Alonso, MS, Prost - they have all shown unsporting behaviour, but that is what makes them what they are. IMO last week, Hamilton also showed this unsporting behaviour towards Alonso. He also showed it to his team mate in Hungary (when he shouldve let Alonso in front on him during the final qualifying run, but refused to give way, despite the agreement with the team).

Hamilton is ruthless and will jump ship if circumstances dictate.

You think??

Im not sure, you have a very strong argument, well i dont think he will change for a few years... until he gets used to the way the sport runs, then you know he will probably adapt and use his own methods... liek hungry...

to be honest, no one knows what could possibly happen...

I cant see Hamilton leaving for a few years anyway - but times change and anything could happen, I would just hate to see him in a Ferrari

Alonso has acted like a spoiled brat all year, really glad he has his cumuppance (always thought Renault were biased and Briatore practically admitted it, never trusted that guy at all)

After all a world champion shouldnt require favourtism to beat a rookie, obviously Alonso isnt as good as he thinks he is!!!

Would love to see Jenson back in a decent car, he deserves better than the trash Honda provided this year

after briatore's antics at benneton on 94 ive never trusted him and with alonso's issues over the last couple of years they can have each other.

Slightly OT but...

THIS is racing!

What that BMW loses on downforce it gains on the 0-120 stright line, its quicker than anything!

Some great posts by this chap, well worth the watch!

Another vote for Button in a decent car and challenging for race wins on a regular basis.

Regards Hamilton, to me it does seem that hes apart of the McLaren team. Basically, I cant see him changing team any time soon. Depends how his second season goes though I guess, if hes as successful as he was this season.

I agree with the statement though, McLaren certainly has benefited from Hamilton. Hes everywhere. The media cant get enough of him atm.

He certainly should get a wage increase for next year. Hes on no-where near Kimi whos a mile ahead at the top. Alonso is on the 3rd most with suprisingly Ralf 2nd highest paid I think. Massa really is in the shadow of Kimi in the money stakes too.

That would depend on just how good he thinks he is. I believe that he thinks he is the best driver in F1 right now. I wouldnt disagree with this. When you consider that he has moved to a completely brand new team. He is not being given any advantage over his team mate (which is what Alain Prost got when he moved to Williams in 1993, for 1 year). He has had to adapt to a totally new car and a new way of working. As it has transpired he doesnt talk or get along with most of his team. This puts added stress/strain on him, everytime he goes to work. [Imagine going to work every day and not even being on speaking terms with your own manager. Imagine what it must be like to believe that nobody in your workplace likes you and they would rather the other guy (Hamilton) win. This clearly is not the best working environment to encourage the best results. Despite all this pressure, stress and paranoia however, he is lying just 12pts behind Hamilton.

Next year, Im pretty certain, bar some unforeseen crashes/events, Alonso would finish ahead of Hamilton, if he remains at McLaren.

Why because everyone at McLaren is suddenly going to like him and stop wanting Hamilton to win? Or are you suggesting he will get used to being disliked?

He will get used to being disliked. And this time round, he will have a full Winter testing program, getting used to the car and how it behaves. There will be no surprises this time round.

Remember, Alonso is mentally, not in the right frame of mind. Once he understands the rules he is playing by (within the team), he will stop worrying about it and apply all his concentration on the driving.

Alonso has been banging on about "I should be number 1 in the team" and "I don't get the support from the team I deserve" for over half the season and he still is (just this week - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7022171.stm)

I'm not sure this attitude will go. I don't rate him in terms of mental ability/strength. Last year when MS started to reign Alonso in, MS was using his tricks like pulling out in front of him in the pits in Q3 at one of the races. They then played the radio transmission of Alonso talking to Pat Symonds - "Did you see what he did???!" Symonds: "Yes we saw". Alonso was so wound up and Symonds was like yeah but get over it. I agree with most peoples perception of Alonso - acting like a spoilt child at the moment. Had it all his own way at Renault. Now things are different and he doesn't like it.

Some great action there. Alonso is mighty on the breaks. The McLaren handles well under breaking and in the slower corners, meeting the apex.

The BMW has some grunt though in the straight line. Its pretty damn quick.

Reminds of when BMW and Williams were partners. Ralf and Montoya bloody flew in it down the straights :)
