Have you got any current or very recent experience of Leicester, Liverpool or Sheffield University?

I am not particularly interested in what you feel about any specific course; I am interested in the accommodation, access to the library, the Union, food and drink, sports facilities, night-life, etc.

Thanks in advance for any intelligent feedback.

I'm currently at Sheff Hallam. Accommodation wise depends on how much you want to spend, then take into account if you'd like reside at halls or share a house. They're both completely different. The halls are pretty decent depending on the location.

Library is in central town and that's very easy to get to.

The union usually have something on every other night. The night life is great, pretty much caters for whatever you're into.

Sports facilities . . Gyms on campus are what you'd expect, standard but Ponds forge is within walking distance of both Sheffield Uni's. There's also plenty of other decent gyms within locality.

Food wise, I love Sheffield. There's a ton of places you can get fantastic food from and there are plenty of take-aways etc

If you have anymore questions, feel free to fire away :)

sheffield can be a nice place to live (been here all my life). however, i woulfd like to point out there is a lot of trees and grass around and therefore a lot of pollen (if you have hayfeaver it my get quite bad). in terms of library access there is the one in the centre of the city and the sheffield university library that is open to the public (with certian limitations) near the arts tower. like any otehr city there is some rough parts and some not so rough parts. sports facilities and centres can be found througgh out the city (these include major fitness centres such as virgin active, ponds forge and other such places). if you like walkign then the city can be tiring since the chances are you will be either walking up or down a hill since they are everywhere. accomodation will vary depending on if you choose to go into halls or houses. with halls many have or are being built thus giving rise to modern and up to date accomodation-(most will have internet access (if you pay) and other essencial student services)-that is within a reasonable distance from the city centre. for food there isnt really a shortage of choice since many of the major fast food companies have branches in and around the city centre, if they do not suit your taste there are as mentioned above no shortage of take aways and resturants (some may be hard to find) that may intrest you. most public places such as the don valley stadium and medowhall shopping centre have public transport servicing them (if you dont drive) but do not expect it to be cheap unless you don't have to pay full adult fair.

Liverpool is can be quite rough to live in, though it's compareable to Sheff, not really Leicster though.

Having been to two out of three cities (the formers), I'd say we have the fittest women.

Case closed.

Liverpool - Oh yes!

Now to why, i am currently a fresher at Lpool btw, but so far, its been an absolute joy to be here.

Accomodation -
I am in Carnatic, Rankin to be precise, its a brilliant place, its catered, which some may cry over, but in reality, its only £20 more a week than self catered and you get a full english every morning and very good food in the evenings. Cannot complain at all, granted were 15min bus journey off campus, but it really doesn't matter, its well worth being that far away for the peace of mind your in a safe place.

Library -
Truth be told, haven't been there yet, but its re-nowned to be a great facility! probably the best out of your 3 choices. And if you can;t find what you want in the library you will in your dept.

Union -
Hosts the biggest nights in UK i believe, can't fault it really, it truly isn't appreciated as much as it should be, always live bands / artists on, and double vision there on a Monday night, woah! £1 for double Smirnoff and mixer! (drinking isnt everything at uni, but certainly helps.)

Food and Drink -
Purely due to the size of Liverpool and the no. of students here its hard to find anything to complain about, and ohh, its cheap!

Sports Facilities -
Am in the Rugby team myself, but all teams share a sports ground known as wyncote, its an incredible facility, free to use etc. got the latest astro and G3 pitches, and also you've got the gym, its pretty impressive!

Night life -
Second to none, easily as good if not better than Manc, cheap on student nights and a massive range of clubs to suit anyones needs.

Tbh, your really best visiting each place, but I visited Sheff and Lpool, and Lpool easily came out on top, and shamefully the people who opted for Sheff are now complaining its too quiet etc. (Note: only the view of a few of my friends, no flaming required kthxbye)

if you want to know anymore add me to msn or email me - dadofsam 'at' hotmail dot com

*coughs* rankin...wa..

Sister went to Sheff, I live in Liverpool but go to uni in Huddersfield.

Seen the nightlife etc of Sheffield, its good, but no Liverpool beater :)

Liverpool!

Biggest student union in the country, second biggest in Europe. Lots of cheap nights out in the guild (union) and there's always at least one bar per weeknight having a student night.

I know many people who say Mondays are <insert bar name here>, Tuesday are, etc

Drinks have promotions, e.g. Vodka mixer for £1.50 each at the guild.

I cannot rate the accommodation as I live at home. There's two major library's and wifi across campus with loads of computer rooms.

There's a Uni gym with the common equipment along with loads of others such as a climbing wall. It has a swimming pool too.

The Uni is a quick 5 min walk down a hill to the city centre.

Don't forget we have Capital of Culture for 2008 so there will be loads of events then. That's not so good for those of us who drive in though :P

I'd look at http://www.libertystudents.com/?action=main for accommodation. They're cheap, secure and modern. I'll be moving out to there prospect point location next year. They do have Sheffield locations too.

I finished at Uni of Leicester in July after three years there.. note: I lived at home..

Access to library: located in the centre of the uni.. expanded to over double it's size over summer.. and afaik it's a great library..

Union: very good, was there on Friday. Again, located on campus (I guess they all are), a good few rooms catering many genres and many bars around the place. It's so good in fact it hosts Form Finesse a few times each year..

Food and Drink: Very good catering sevices, a couple around the campus - the main one has their own chefs making special dishes daily, etc - like a restaurant really :d

Sports: A dedicated sports field, etc is located a few miles away from main campus - I think the university's quite good with sports. Gym on campus too.

Night Life: Excellent - various days of the week dedicated to certain bars/nights.. and, being very close to city-centre, you cant go wrong.

Overall: Top20 Uni, One of the best uni's, voted by the students that go there.. what else do ya need?

I'm at Liverpool hope and girlfriend is at Uni of Liverpool - Derby and Rathbone. It's a great city for students lots of great nights out. I just discovered Showtime on a Saturday night thats pretty cool.

Having now visited all three:

Sheffield seemed the nicest place to live and study for three or four years. The Uni and accommodation appear to be pretty compact which I like. They have very active climbing and snowboarding clubs, a great gym and a 33m pool.

Liverpool just looked so run-down and dilapidated, it was quite depressing tbh. City of Culture 2008 - not at this rate! The Uni itself is having loads of money spent on it but it seemed rather spread out.

Leicester just seemed to be a pretty boring city but the staff at the University were incredibly friendly and helpful and they do have very good options for the course I am interested in (Chemistry).
