Hello there.

I thaught that TF2 would be DX10, but i got prooved wrong when the beta was releised that its isnt dx10, but my god it looks good anyway.

Just wondering now, if HL2 Ep2 And or Portal is DX10 at all? Im about to pre-load it, ether on XP or Vista, depending on which DirectX it supports.

Thanks for any replys :)

They aren't built on DX10, but Valve say that they will use DX10 features, whether it be performance increases or visual enhancements, i don't know. But it will be used eventually. Don't think it will be in the initial release version on Wednesday though.

you dont really have to worry with valve games tbh, they give us HDR that worked with SM2 cards, they survey all the hardware etc so know when the time for everything is right :)

Yup, its funny that valve get criticised by people for their games not having insane polygon counts, then the same group of people complain when some new game comes and out totally rapes their 3 grand gaming pc. I think out of all the games companies out there that valve has their fingers on the pulse of the gaming community more so than any other company. Just they are prone to delays which is unfortunate.

good luck with the preloading though, each time i try to preload episode 2 it says the servers are too busy and deny me, maybe valve will give it to me for christmas, then delay the gift untill february :(

it's weird how steam is so different for other people, nearly everyone complains about download speeds but the lowest i have ever had to put up with is 600kb/s,

I probably get around 1200-1400kbs on average from them which is pretty good, i am sure it will be a different story trying to unlock ep2 and portal though :(

I dno, the cartoon shader that I presume they are using for TF2 means they use double the polygons to implement it ;):p

dx10 features efficency gains. Its not impossible that'd help proper physics be implemented in CSS maybe

Was HDR retroactive in the original hl2 ?

Don't think so as it meant re-doing every map - however this has been done for HL2 included on the console version of Orange Box , that version features the current engine that the PC version is currently using so who knows they might release the maps for the pc now at some point.

Really? I'm curious as to why. Is there a page describing the rendering techniques they use for each shader?
