I’ve got a graphics card with a DVI output which apparently carries a sound as well (2600XT), will a normal DVI to HDMI cable carry audio as well as picture or do I need a specialist cable?

You will probebly have to use the Composite cables that came with your graphics card to be able to get sound. Normal DVI and HDMI cables will not give you sound.

google it noobs:p

the 2600xt's (certain or all of them, not sure) are able to output audio from the dvi connectors, using a special adaptor to convert that into hdmi.

a normal dvi-hdmi cable will not, afaik, carry sound. you will also only get 2channel PCM or dd/dts, and none of the HD audio formats.

for now, if you want it all, analogue is the only way.

Do you know where you can get the converter? Don't want to get one that doesn't carry the sound, and not fussed about HD sound as DD/DTS 5.1 is all my AV supports anyway (and to be honest i'm very happy with DD/DTS 5.1, think my TV will pass through the 5.1 to the AV amp)

Cheers
