Hey all,
My Dad's currently got a Toyota Previa which he's had for a long time now, must be at least 6 years and since we no longer use all the seats any more he's decided to look for something a bit smaller and cheaper to run. I believe the current car's a 2.0 litre petrol that does about 39mpg according to the specs. Since he does a fair bit of driving with commuting every day plus driving to conferences and things across the country at least once a week, something comfortable for motorways would be good. It'd be nice if it looked a bit smarter (not that I don't love the Previa ;) ).

So far I'm going to point him in the direction of the Audi A3, VW Golf and the Focus as a cheaper option, any others you'd suggest?

is he looking at brand new?

i would look at a bigger car, while someone has probably done a million motorway miles in a focus/golf/a3 there are better tools for the job

3 series aint too big for his needs? Maybe 330d? (Hey its my first time suggesting a BMW, so don't shoot me if its a bad idea!)

Other than that, Focus or A3 seem nice choices!

you say it like suggesting a BMW is something everyone should give a go at someone point or another, like doing drugs, or having anal sex.

If you plan doing your final point with me, please make me do the one before so i don't remember it in the morning :)

The 3 series just seemed like something worth considering for the guys dad's needs, but then again, i have a good habit of being wrong :D

330D is a nice car, and if he doesnt care about performance and wants even better fuel economy, the 320D. Not the fastest car in the world, but not too horrible :P, and does 45-50mpg :)
