If i download the orange box through steam and then wipe my hard drives clean some time later this year (for example), will i be able to download it all again or have to pay for it again ????
I presume the payment is linked to my steam id so i should be able to download it again for free ????????????

You can just download it again, once its paid for its paid for, you dont have to purchase it again

just started episode 2 and am absolutely loving it 
Was a bit dissappointed with performance running it maxed at 1680x1050 with 8x AA box and the FPS is about sub-30 in some parts and this is on a overclocked 2900XT and a 3.0GHz C2D.

Was this Portal? Well at least I know my performance is fine, I guess it hasent been developed fully yet so we should expect improvements because we both know our cards can easilly handle the graphics in Portal and HL2:EP2.

Not surprised with x8 MSAA, x4 is enough for me at 1680x1050.

You running a 2900? Do you also get into sum 30's?
ATm I'm using 4xAA and that is satisfactory and enough AA, but I am getting a stutter problem, weird really:

OMG! I am decrypting right now! those screenies have just made me almost cream my pants. 
I am so eager to play this now, I think I am gonna make it my mission today to complete it or near enough get most of it done.

No stutter but i am on a raptor so that could make a difference, game is completely smooth for me and never slows down, just upgraded to a [email protected], don't know if that helps with keeping the gameplay smoothassilk but it cant hurt.
Maybe after the holidays I might need to invest in a Q6600, but then again my mobo has problems overclocking Quad Cores apparently

Get some cash and get a decent mobo before the CPU, the Q6600 and probably future quads will clock like crazy, don't need your mobo holding you back on potential massive clocks, i have mine clocked on fairly slow ram as well.
