Half-Life® Series - Buying Advice Needed Please!

Hello,

I want to buy and play the games below . . .

  • Half-Life®: Source
  • Half-Life® 2
  • Half-Life® 2: Episode One
  • Half-Life® 2: Episode Two
  • Counter-Strike™: Source™
  • Team Fortress 2
Obviously thats quite a lot of game to get through but I'm well up for it, however I'm not sure how much I should be paying and which package will cover me for all the games in the list.

Also being a Steam nOOb isn't helping matters, I am confused lol! :D

I'm keen to blast through Half-Life®: Source as soon as I can, I'm just not sure whether to buy it alone or as part of a larger package

I also have one of these:

depending on whats the best option I can either use this or flog it at auction.

Best bet is probably -

Use the black box voucher you have - Valve are still honouring them I believe - not sure if they have upgraded them to give the full orange box though.

If they haven't upgraded them see if you can get some kind person to gift you HL2 and EP1 from the thread on here.

And lastly buy HL:source and CS:Source which should be around £15 after conversion from $
 
Original Half Life will cost you £6 on steam. Half Life Source is a bit more but tbh, the difference is hardly noticeable. a bit smoother perhaps.

Blue Shift and Opposing Force are also great fun. They're not integral to the story though, but at a couple of hours long each, might be worth burning through as well.

Then, buy the orange box for £26.

I dont really understand black box vouchers since it got canned :/
 
i'd def try to use the voucher if i was you for the main Games in the package.
you could try and contact valve via a support ticket to find out the situation with *all* of the games listed on the voucher.
but *hold* off flogging the voucher!
 
You could use the black box voucher to get you TF2, Portal and Episode 2. I can give you my HL2 and Episode 1 gifts if you like. Then all you'll need to buy is HL:Source and CS:S which will come to about £15.
