hi all, well i took the plunge and bought a new workstation for an architects business, obviosuly it came with Vista HomeP installed as most do these days...

come to hook it up to the HP DesignJet 500 Plotter...no drivers... HP Website says drivers due May 07....

suffice to say i am very dissapointed and quite embarrased that i advised this solution.

To anyone who says vista = good. i disagree 1000 times.

unless someone can pull 1 out of the bag and help me find the driver?

HP Designjet 500 24 inch. colour.

What a load of tosh. So your basing your expereince of Vista becuase you cant get one driver for your Printer?

Dont you have the brains to go and check to see if all your hardware is supported first?

You fail not Vista.

Agreed but all he said was that he disagrees that Vista is good, for him in this scenario. Who can argue with this given that his printer doesn't work? And this is coming from someone that really likes Vista.

What's vista got to do with his printer?
It's the drivers aka HP's fault.
Micro$oft isn't responsible for drivers.

Just email hp every day like 5 times till they get mad and release the driver to stop the emails :p.

Try the XP drivers. Oh and yes its really not vista's fault ;)

"NOTE: If your printer currently uses either an HP/GL/2, PCL3 GUI or PostScript XP driver, you may be able to download the current XP driver from HP to provide printing functionality. Windows Vista printing is very similar to Windows XP and most print drivers supported in XP environment for Designjet printers may also work in the Windows Vista operating system. "

Okay maybe i was a bit against Vista, but in the headline i did slate HP too,

i will advise him to try the XP drivers but that wasnt really mentioned heavily on the HP Website so let hope for a workaround.

but tbh when you buy a new PC why should you need to look for a workaround to ensure that £2k's worth of hardware works properly?

Yes it is HP's fault for not gettin the drivers done

Don't have a go at Vista because of lack of driver support.

People used to slate Linux distros all the time for lack of driver support when in fact it was the fault of the manufacturers in that case too. ;)

I do wonder why you'd recommend an OS to people when you hadn't tried it first though?

It's you fault for not checking that everything wasn't supported first, stop trying to blame someone else - if your going to buy some HP xw/nx's then get a copy of Vista off the business and get everything setup before you start losing man hours becasue people can't print.

And did you get the XP drivers working?

If not try windows website they had one for our T1100 44" ...

im having a go at Vista and HP or did you miss my last post?

i have tried it first. Problem is that you cannot buy many new PC's with high specification with XP Pro.

it is my fault, but it is also HP's fault their website says they have drivers coming but infact they dont...

Im at work atm so nope not managed to get the drivers working. This is for a friends business not mine.

Its just you wouldnt expect HP to drop support for like 3k worth of printer on the switch to a new OS?

Lets face it, Vista is pretty lame anyway, its just a jumped up piece of crap that likes to crash at every given opportunity, LONG LIVE OSX!

runs back to osx forum :D

Are you just after increasing your post count or was this some lame attempt at actually starting a discussion on OSX - the OS where you pay for your service releases each year Vs Vista?
I'm guessing on the post count - because short though your pst was it certainly wasn't sweet and certainly lacked any content.

The thing is you cannot blame Microsoft at all - they can only include drivers for devices in the OS that the manufacturers supply.
It is also not Microsoft's job to supply drivers for anything.

There are only two people who can be blamed here.
Firstly HP - who are extremely good at dropping support for their products at the drop of a hat.
As each new MS OS has been released, since Win95, through WinNT, Win2000, WinXP and now Vista they have dropped support for a few more products.

HP always produce a list of "drivers to come" and this list is always taken with a pinch of salt.
Many things on the list will never get support at all and this is extremely common from HP.

Finally, as you've admitted the only other party to blame is yourself really.
If I'm going to say that a certain combination of things are going to work then really I'll only do so after testing.
If this isn't possible then I'm going to make sure that I have everything available to actually get that thing working.
It's one thing a website saying "Drivers available May 2007".
It's quite another having the .exe file sat in a folder on my HD.

Amen bruva (runs with you ;) ) Can't wait for Leopard.

I wish my XP install on my PC hadn't crashed in the last year. I wish it hadn't crashed once today tbh :(

I've got nothing dodgy installed (except XP :p) and I run TuneUp, Ccleaner, Ad-aware, Nod32 and Diskeeper regularly.

I've had so many issues with this current install of XP I'm just sick to death with it. Looking forward to my new MBP in December and I'll be putting Vista on it for gaming.
