My Quad Core Kentsfield Speed Step Model?

Hi everyone I find myself very confused about what model I have of the Q6600. I found that the Q6600 is highly overclockable hense why I bought it but unsure of whether its a Kentsfield with the SPEED STEP. Looking at the box I have this model number: BX80562Q6600SLACR Someone mentioned that this version is the SLACKER model and therefore is the SPEED STEP GO model... can anyone clear this up for me please.

I didn't want to open it till I get confirmation. If it wasn't a G0 then I would have returned it :) Btw does this mean something good. My batch number/LPO says: L726B366. I am hearing about this idea of B3 and B2 etc and don't know what it means :(

The G0 ones require less power, so output less heat so are better overclockers.

Why they are popular, most go to 3.4ghz+ with the right setup and a bit of tinkering.

That's the same as mine and the bloody thing won't go past 3.2ghz and that's on water too. It will not boot with more than 1.375v on the vcore either. At least it only needs 1.35v for 3.2ghz so it is running below 40 degrees on all cores while running prime.

You running that on the system in your sig?
 
Yea but, from what I have read on her the P35 chipset is best for clocking Quad cores, other chipsets seem to top out early on.
 
It got my 4300 to 3.4ghz and that took a lot more than 1.375v on the vcore.

But its not a Quad. ;)

Quad cores like the P35 chipset, really do like it especially when you compare it to the 680 and the older 975 and 965 boards.

Same with all Asrock kit, they will run the gear but doing it well is another matter. ;)

Abit IP35 with a bad clocker is hitting 3.4+ consistently, look at the OC'd rigs OcUK build. The speeds would not be that high unless pretty much all the chips did that speed or higher. :)
 
But why won't the cpu take more than 1.375v? That's the bit i can't understand. Anymore than that and it just goes into endless reboots. I am currently running at 8x400 as i heard the quads prefer the extra bandwidth but i did drop the multiplier to find out if it was an fsb thing. I hit 457mhz which is near the max for my memory as i can't reduce the multiplier on this board, so it can't be that.

I do quite like the look of the Asus Maximus X38 jobby but don't really want to change the mobo quite yet. Saying that, i am far from happy with 3.2ghz, especially as i am on water.
 
May be the motherboard topping out and not your CPU, the symptoms can be the same if its the motherboard not liking the volts and not the CPU maxing out.

The temps your getting and such a low ceiling really does point towards it being your mobo topping you out.

Something like the IP35 is a safe (and cheaper) way of clocking the quad, best way to do it is to get a mate with a P35 and borrow it and see what your chip will do. ;)
 
Ok, cheer's Yewen. Thing is, out of everyone i know, i am the only enthusiast. Everybody else, despite me telling them not to, goes to the purple shirts brigade or related electrical stores to buy their pc's. They then bring them to me because they are running slowly with Norton ( :mad: ) and loads of bloatware on them.

Look's like i may need to bite the bullet and get a new mobo then. :(
 
Thanks guys for the help its very much appreciated :) but I am now worried about the Q6600 and the mobo I have. From reading the above fellas post I was wondering would it run fine and be overclocked to the suggested speeds above, i.e. 3.4GhZ or higher with the ASUS P5W DH Deluxe mobo? It was the best mobo at the time when I bought it, just a little under a year ago :)

Overclockers doing a mega fine deal on OCZ RAM 2x1GB for just £47.99! Wonder if its worth upgrading to 4GB but people tell me its not really worth not much of a performace gain is this true? Double question sorry :(
 
4GB gives a big performance boost in a 64bit OS but it can be a pain to get running smoothly and limits your overclock a bit.

The boards are quite literally suck it and see with how far you can go, some go far some don't but as a rule of thumb boards based on the P35 chipset overclock quads the best.

There is running a CPU, running it well enough to overclock and running the cpu with a large comfort zone to enable the high clocks with ease. (AKA some P35 boards)
