And off on another tangent, I've now taken a fancy for these RX-8 beasts!

I was going to get a regular hot hatch, a Focus ST or Civic Type R on a PCP deal. However, its dawned on me that for the same monthly payents over the same term, I can get an RX-8 and actually keep it at the end of the term.

Anyone any info about them? Looking at a Budget of around 10k or so. Will be using it to travel a 20 mile return journey each day on a motorway, with a little bit of B Road fun also!

The PZ is pretty much bang on with the power. Yes they are thirsty but they are different. Good fun to drive and the proper wheels are driving in the mazda.

wanna buy mine????......awesome cars but wayyyyy too thirsty :( petrol and oil, filled it right up 2 days ago £46 gone 152 mile and its less than a quarter full :(oil top ups are supposidly required every couple of petrol fill ups, they also depreciate like i dont know what.....22k brand new, 3 years later mines only worth 11k now, but on the bright side there one hell of a GRIN machine :D really fun to drive.....id save your money tho lol, monthly payments are cheap enough but its the money it uses for petrol, plus insurance and road tax, go to www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum, there helpful and friendly :)

Do you get about 200 miles out of the tank usually? Thats not too much of an issue.

My top budget is about 10k

yeah 200 (is usually normal) -250 ...depends how heavy your right foot is, heavy foot and you can get around 160-170ish to a tank yet sensible driving you could get 200-250 pretty easy.....mazda.co.uk probs will have some for near 10k, around a 53 plate with a few miles on tho.

Thats definitely not too bad. In my 1.2 Ibiza I get 280 out of £36 so thats not an AWFUL amount less!

Looking forward to going on the hunt for one of these!

in that case.....Enjoy :) there very nice, and the suicide doors, (well the whole car - head turner :D

Which would you get?? the 192 or 231? i have the 192ps, it would beat the 231 off the start but is around 6-8 mph slower , iirc the 192 is better handling around the corners but the 231 is better on a straight , or its the other way around, i dont pay much attention, i think the 192 is in insurance group 15 and the 231 in 17, not too sure tho

Thinking about the 231, dont think there is much difference in the fuel consumption, and its only one group higher at 16. Got some good quotes on insurance.

Pretty scarce round these parts though..

 Do the rotary engines use 2 stroke oil or what?

lol virtually is a 2 stroke :D, also the thing with Rexys is that when you start it up you need to make sure your going to take it for an actual drive rather than a quick move about on the drive.....if you move it from one space on the drive to another then shut down you risk the chance of flooding it :( my dad did it :p so its best to take it for a little spin to warm her up

A work colleague used to own one.

He said - Great car - But expensive tyres and very heavy on juice!

Had one for about 18 months and loved it. Only the massive milage I started doing caused me to sell it. If I'd stayed doing 12k per year I would have kept it.

Sublime handling, lovely engine note (get a Borla), interesting looks and a nice interior.

Oil consumption varies but I was using 0.5L every 1000 miles. Make sure you use good quality oil.
Gas milage is lousy. I was getting 17mpg out of mine.

Going to see one in about an hour.

2004 230 version.. Metallic Grey, Full heated leather, bose, FSH, the works.

£9995... very tempted!

I looked at one as well and the thing which put me off was the oil comsumption. That and I also read that they had a lack of torque as well, which I though might be an issue around the hilly area I live near.

I was under the impression that you waited for the revs to settle down and THEN you could drive it, avoiding flooding the motor. Also, there is a procedure to follow for flushing if you do this. If you follow the procedure, you will be ok, if you dont, its off to the garage with you!
