Laws and stuff RE: putting up anti-vandal paint/spikes

I suppose it depends on the spikes used. Barbed wire isn't really all that bad, it'll make a nasty cut but that's about it really. I can see why a sign shouldn't be necessary for that. I was more thinking big spikes out of view that signs are a good idea for.

There illegal fullstop iirc. As there intended to hurt people. Best thing is just get some fencing with ornate spikes on.

We had broken glass embedded in the concrete on top of our yard walls for over 30 years without a problem, not even a slight injury. Then about 6 years ago we had a visit from the local Council Gestapo telling us that we have to get rid of it just on the off-chance that someone climbing over it could get severely hurt!

You should have seen the face on this jobsworth when I pointed out to him that the entire reason for the glass being there in the first place was to hurt someone trying to climb over the wall!

Doubt they cause damage, what are they going to sue you for, red palms?
I said seriuse damage. There's a difference from small puncture wounds and a 8" spike through your foot/hand.

As I said I may be wrong. But I'm sure on one of those tv shows about how best to defend your house. Said certain items where actually band and even the vandal paint had to have signs up.

I really can't understand how someone blatantly breaking into your property can sue if they get injured, it just makes no sense whatsoever. I do agree with having to have warning signs up though, just in case you get kids fooling about and trying to climb the wall/fence/whatever.

Just make sure the spikes are sufficiently lethal. Can't sue when they're dead :D, a plan with no drawbacks ;)

put spikes on top, sharpen them so they would pierce a bit of paper if placed on top and some wet glue like fly paper.

thieving gits will still be there in the morning meaning they cant run off to complain and you get to administer punishment. :)

everyones a winner, except the loser. :p

Think of the mess you'd have to clean up though :D

....altough I guess you could attach a brush and shovel to their legs, and get them to do it whilst they're attached to the spikes.

Actually, why not just shoot them all. :p

I always thought spikes were a big nono myself but, I don't think they are, either that or my local council = very stupid.
We have about 6 primary schools here and 1 massive community college (biggest in the country i think) and all of them are surrounded by 3 meter high fences all with 3 pronged spikes on them.
I always thought spikes were bad but if anyone broke into any of these schools and hurt themselves or the students decided to climb the fence for 'fun' or to get out at break/lunchtimes then surely they would/could be eligable to be sued for a lot of money.
And btw there are absolutely no warning signs about the spikes and never have been

Good! Quite simply, if someone decided to try and climb over a fence with spikes and hurt themselves in the process then they deserve it! You see, I've never had a problem with spikes at all, because when I see them I say to myself "Nah, I'm not going to climb that fence because I'll end up like a shish kebab"!

Common sense really!

Oh i agree completly however, some people have said the law states without warning signs you could sue. I dunno how true that is i was just pointing out the fact there werent any
