We all drive cars or bikes, else we wouldn't be posting in this forum.

Has anyone decided to reduce their carbon footprint by not using their car/bike where not needed?

I start this week, walking to work instead of driving, this means 4 journeys will be knocked off my "driving to" list.

Anybody else?

Phil

Not using as much electricity would probably be useful.

Turn you heating off all winter and don't use tvs/pcs/stereos or ovens either :p

My footprint has, unfortunately, gone up in recent months having just moved away from where I work. I used to walk to work but have to drive in now :( Sorry planet.

Edit: having said that, I turned my washing machine down to 30 degrees and the heating down a bit too \o/

No, I love driving and cars don't really attribute as much as people make out.

If anything we should get rid of the sea... :D

Nah, I tried soo hard but only size 8's will fit my feet :D

Why would anyone drive their car if they didn't need too anyway? If I lived within walking distance of work I would cycle but the 12 miles of motorway make it difficult.

Besides, would you not increase carbon emissions by walking to work anyway, you'd eat more, burn more energy, drink more and you have to take into consideration that whilst doing so, your extra waste will increase the amount of carbon output by waste recycling and the increase in demand of food etc.

I've been awake for 38 hours, maybe if I sleep soon, my footprint will get smaller! :D

A better reason for the walking is the health aspect as well!

Just going about normal to be honest, no matter what this country does, those people over in China/Japan/Tokyo will produce hundreads of thousends more then what we will ever make. Thats my thoughts any way :) .

Fitted a decat :o I feel that my changes will not make any difference to what China and America are doing. However, I do activly save leccy when I can.

I have, I've started leaving for work appointments earlier so I can drive slower. This is purely so I can reduce my carbon footprint and has nothing to do with me wanting more of my 40ppm to go in my pocket rather than the pumps... nor is it so I spend less time in the office, honest ;)

Net result 40.1 mpg - yay, go me.

On a slightly less green note last night I only managed 22.4 MPG but hey I'm trying at least ;)

Seriously though in the summer if I'm just in the office I do bike to work as long as its dry. This time of year? Not on your nellie

no, you can stick your carbon footprint. co2 is not a problem. i'm with ethos, get rid of the sea - that's full of carbon footprints.

I suppose I've reduced mine, though not intentionally. I've started using my bike a lot more to get around but for reasons of fitness and reducing my fuel bill rather than any environmental concerns.

No.

Talk to the Chinese if you're worried about CO2.

I couldn't agree more, when you see chinese are opening coal fired power stations left right and centre and have plans for hundreds more and the US refusing to sign up to the environmental agreements, I personally couldn't care less. It's just an excuse to sell low energy lightbulbs that give out crap light anyway.

No, if anything ive increased mine in the last few months.
I do try to do my bit by walking to work (ok, thats a lie, the only reason I walk is because its less than 150meters from home!)

I use the runabout instead of the S3 for most local necessary journeys (such as driving to work), which probably counts for reducing it in some way.

I refuse to extend my 12 hour working day to 14 hours using the bus though.

I walk most places that are local anyway because i take my dog with me. Nothing to do with my carbon footprint BS though, It is just how i live my life.
I hate all this ******* Save Energy crap. I monitor my own leccy to keep my bill down & for No other reason. Makes me laugh when i walk through town at night & every single shop has all there display lights on after mid night, What the **** is that all about then. Or taxing cars & moaning about 4x4's when Busses go past & gas us all :p
I think it's all Nonsence. I only use what i Have to use so **** all those Sandle wearing weirdos :p

Nope sorry :/ well apart from turning things off at the wall lately ive started doing so abit :p but i only ride my bike so thats less than a car anyhow :p

not intentionally.
I car share a couple of times a week, cycle if the weather is nice.
None of which was to reduce my footprint, more to save money and my car. I live less than 2 miles from work, and my poor scooby does not really get warm!
Again, in my house, things were done not with the view of CO2 but costs, so we have changed all our bulbs to energy saver, lowered the heating a little, stopped lots of draughts and our house is well insulated.
We are also looking into Solar and Wind generated electricity, as that will be a good cost saving to us.

I'm now commuting about 50 miles/week instead of 200+ (office move, good thing too with petrol at 108.9 here :() and I car share where possible. The money saving aspect is more appealing the environmental one, however.
