I remember team fortress and it was great. Team fortress 2 looks all cartoony though

Is it the same one im thinking of or is it a different one? is it worth getting through steam?

It is such an amazing game. The cartoony look and feel really works well with it. You'll only know what I'm talking about once you've given it a try, so give it a go :)

I was a huge fan of TFC, so far i'm enjoying TF2. The graphics are 'cartoony', but they're so well done it's like playing in a pixar movie. The gameplay has been simplified, actually simplified is the wrong word, they've removed a lot of the skills that were hard to learn but totally necessary to even compete in TFC (eg conc jumping is long gone) in order to make the game more accessible to newer players.

My only complaint would be the fact that the etiquette that went hand in hand with TFC seems to have dissolved into a mass brawl. Fighting in the midfield in maps like 2fort totally destroys the offense-defense structure that was abided by so strongly. The result is often a complete lock down on the bridge and, when you manage to which is rarely, break past the bridge you find an empty undefended base.

Basically the CTF maps in TF2 seem to be a mass DM on a bridge with one or two players actually going for the flag with few people actually trying to stop them, they just happen to get caught in the mass brawl in the middle.

I was sceptical about the cartoon graphics but once you're in the action everything looks perfect. It really is a wonderful game, pure undiluted fun.

I was the same, saw the graphics on the websites and thought 'this is very kiddy' and wasnt impressed. Brought the orange pack and cant stop playing it now, graphics are very good, looks excellent and plays even better.

A must buy.

I have only played 2 games but its fun. And I think I will like it.

But I cant help thinking how some people (snipers) can hit you way before you hit them. I guess I will have to learn the skills.

Now is there any leveling up in this, like the BF series of games.

Have to say, so far I am less than impressed by TF2.

Got that "meh" feeling. Granted, have not spent a lot of time on it, but still it has failed to grab me.

Think am going to leave it for now, and stick with ET:QW for a while, as I am loving that.

Pretty much the same as how im feeling about it. Played it for 10-15 minutes yesterday and had to leave it. Shame as ive been waiting for it for soo long.

Ill pick it up at the weekend and give it a proper chance, but as first impressions go it wasn't good.

I played the fortress forever mod and whilst it was fun for 10 minutes or so it didnt have anything else. Sure its fun rocketing people and capturing a flag but it lacks all the stuff that keeps you entertained thats in games like bf2 (vehicles, upgrades etc)
It just like painkiller, quake and the rest when you shoot someone, die, do the same.

Saying this some games really pull this off though, namely mohaa and sof2

Played this briefly last night and this morning. Takes some getting used to after playing css.

The only two i could play well were the sniper and spy. Both fun!

Looking forward to having a play with the other types.

Is it me or does the scout not run very fast, is there a speed button or something?

Has anyone worked out how to get very high texture settings to stick? Every time I load the game it resets to high

No they don't. The trick is to get as close as possible to enemies like the HWGuy, and then run circles around him. You tend to find at that speed only a computer god would have the ability to keep thier aim on the scout when hes moving around them that fast. Also at point blank range you can kill the majority of the opposition it 1/2 shots.

Hopefully the mod community will keep us entertained with plenty of custom maps (I hope).

Valve promised to release maps of thier own for free as time passes. This is fortunate as some of the old fortress classics are missing from this one, Avanti and Canalzone being the most sorely missed.

You're not the only one with this problem. TF2 seems to reset the graphical settings back to recommended every time you load up, it makes little sense to me as the recommended for me is 'medium' texture level however i notice no performance difference (but plenty of extra eye candy) at 'very high'. I wish the bugger would just stay where i put it.
