Wherever you go, there you are.
While searching the net for information about a powercolour 2900 pro as i had'nt really heard of them, i came across a site taking preorders for the new 8800gt.
Anyone know how this card compares to a 2900 pro?

Please don't mention competitors pricing, JG

... and the same place also put the pro at 149 when it was on preorder, then upped the price considerably. I recommend you don't go by those figures. I would wait to see what price Gibbo is selling at to get the average price. (Hurry up and get them stocked Mr.Gibbo :D )

What is more interesting is that the 8800gt 256 versions seem to be under £100. Was pretty surprised by that. I still wouldn't buy a 256 mb verson though. With all the high quality textures in up coming games I think that 512 is minimum I'd go for personally. Good news for those on a tight budget though!

Great. Finally a mid range priced card with decent directx10 performance (should be) for £100 for those on a budget. ABout time too.

I think I may have been mistaken about the £100 range :( I looked at the cards and they are incorrectly titled 8600gt's and not 8800gt's :( (Unless of course these are the revision versions of the 8600's and they want to put a better name on it?)

So I'm guessing price range for the 256mb version will actually be somewhere from £120- £150. Estimated price for 512mb at £140-£170.

I wonder what this means for the 'new' 8800gts however, where will that sit in the price bracket?

Agree there. There is a big hole at the moment, nothing in the £100-£130 bracket. It jumps from x1950pro at ~£80 to 2900pro and 8800gts 320 at ~£180

You have to imagine that they will be priced between the current 8800 GTS and 8800 GTX really.

The 8800GT is supposed to be between a 8600 and 8800 GTS in performance and that's where they have priced that

Well I've just got my Powercolor HD2900 Pro and it's superb for the price. It has the three heat pipe cooler and its clocked now at XT speeds with NO problems :)

Will go higher, but A) not tried yet and B) I don't think my PSU is up to the job, in fact I'm surprised its works with the card at XT speeds!

Fishy or not? What do you think?

If that is legit, it's getting a lot of it's score from the 3.6Ghz its running! I don't think g80 hardware did as well as ati's stuff (in general) in 3dmark? It's an ok reference point to compare nvidia to nvidia, but not nvidia to ati. Games tests for the win comparing against previous 8800gts/gtx cards :):D

Where is 8800GT expected to be performance wise? Inbetween GTS320 and GTS640?

Nope it's meant to be between a 8600 and 8800 GTS so a score of 12000 in 3dmark06 is pretty good if you ask me.

I think people with 3Ghz Intel processors get 11000-12000 so that we lead you down the route that its as fast (or almost) as a 8800 GTS

What about the new 512MB GTS, how much better than the 320 will that be?
