Is there a point to being able to escape incineration?

I've been portaling my way around the complex for a while now, and the only thing I seem to be able to do is get into an automated tube that contains the blocks, which takes me back to one of the early levels where I get stuck :(

Is that it, or can really escape?

You can escape, if you look directly ahead and up a bit, stick a portal there, then once the moving platform you are on reaches the end of the tunnel (just before it starts lowering) put another portal on the wall to your left then jump through.

No no, i mean after getting off the platform. You can then portal your way up to the top of that room (Very tall), and out into the "offices" of the Aparture labs. I've been wandering round OUTSIDE of the levels for about 20 mins now.

Hence the "really" part of my sentence.

Can you give me any hints?

Am I going the right way if I end up at that "tube" system that is cracked at one end? Or if I pass the window where I can see the office with the presentation about "what is black mesa" in it?

You're on the right track, there IS a clear ending and you're on the right path... however, despite the fact i completed it only 30 mins ago, i can't remember how to get out of that room. You are meant to get to that room, and there is a way out.

I can get into that tube overhead, by going into the room behind me and up some stairs (after portalling up about 20m), or I can go straight ahead into a room full of un-loved computers. The room ahead has a window to the right just inside the door, where you can see aforementioned slideshow.

Yeah sometimes it seems like there is litterally no way out, and I got quite frustrated at times! Looking up and down and round and round! Desperatly firing at anything that might be able to hold a portal!

Got to the "end" end now, thats probably one of the better end game bosses I've fought, the final sphere was rather tricky to get to!

And I got my cake \o/

:D

Great game, if a little short.

SHORT? i finished it in 3hours... i think it was more of a demo of the engine to be used in future games rather than a game on its own right...

anyhow, bought the orange box for tf2 and episode 2 so there isnt much to complain about.... BTW, the end boss is fun, took my 2 tried, but died it did... i LOVE the ending credits... wanna see it on youtube.... anybody have it?

yeah isnt aperture the other science experiment team that kleiner and vance talk about? the ones who created the borealis experiment?

i just completed portal and it was amazing! really great atmosphere, and you dont even encounter 1 other person in the entire game! the moment where you're approaching the incinerator will be remembered in my mind as a great gaming experience

Does anyone know where to get an mp3 of that song at the end? Great ending to a wonderful (even if it was short) game.

Portal has allowed me to figure out the HL2 storyline (by figure out, i mean stab in the dark), aperture were indeed behind borealis, i reckon they created another teleport device similar to that of black mesa (in portal you see a presentation slide entitled 'competing with black mesa' indicating they were working in the same field), and clearly they were capable of matter teleportation due to the portal gun.

I reckon borealis was teleported to the arctic in order to hide it from the combine as it's a easy way to connect their dimension and 'earths'. In episode 3 you fight off the combine and decide to destroy the portal as
Eli asked you to before he kicked the bucket. However for some reason (probably cos Gordon loves to pwn faces) i reckon Gordon will go through on a suicide mission into the combine dimension and the portal is destroyed behind him. He whoops some combine ass and as the planets about to go nuclear the Gman pulls Gordon out and sticks him in stasis again, ready for whenever/whatever happens in HL3. The end.

Probably way off but hey ho had to get it in somewhere so if it does happen i can point out that (to quote Yatzee) I ******* called it.

makes sense. but i heard half life 3 isnt the end of the half life franchise. probably another half life 3:episode 1 and 2 jobby. but yeah i think its pretty obvious that you will end up going to the combine homeplanet...

.....and i do hope (although this just wont happen) you have a showdown with G man..but he can control time, so he seems to have a slight edge on you and your mavity gun
