Half Life 2: Orange Box

i see EA are doing the PS3 port

Edge: Going back to thinking about different platforms, we notice that you aren’t developing the PS3 version of The Orange Box in-house. Do you have some horror stories to share?

Gabe Newell : I think the people who have The Orange Box on the PS3 are going to be happy with their game experience. We’ve done the PC and 360 versions here and EA has a team doing the PS3 version – and they’ll make the PS3 version a good product; EA got the job done in putting a lot of people with PS3 experience on the project. But I think it’s harder to get it to the same standard as the 360 and PC versions.

apparently GN didn't want to touch the PS3 conversion due to what he deems as

Edge: A while ago you said that you thought Sony should do a 'do-over' with PS3. Do you still think that?

GN: Absolutely. I think [PS3 is] a waste of everybody’s time. Investing in the Cell, investing in the SPE gives you no long-term benefits. There’s nothing there that you’re going to apply to anything else. You’re not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they’ve created. I don’t think they’re going to make money off their box. I don’t think it’s a good solution.

Definitely a difference there, but it is only in terms of colours. Visually the game is the same, so I would assume the video creator is playing the game with levels of contrast and colour below what they actually should be.

Just saw this on CVG, the man speaks his mind and will no doubt be persecuted for it across the web.

Not really, Gabe Newell is actually revered for his views on stuff and how direct he is with his opinions. Everytime he has something to say, everyone is willing to listen (much like Carmack). Infact, the only time people don't take GN seriously is when they are too busy taking the mick out of him being fat or by putting different images on his CPU screen :p.

Gabe is ex-Microsoft anyway, so whilst I think the bloke is VERY fair in what he says, his loyalties are a little with Microsoft.

He's had so many years in the business, with nothing but a string of number ones behind him that he can say what the hell he likes and people will generally agree with him. * edit * (not as in following like sheep, more because the guy is one of only a few people in the world who knows the games industry the best)

Guys a star!

I remember a right ho ha last time he criticized the PS3 and by that I mean from the forum dwellers not his peers/the industry. The same went for Carmack after his comments.
I for one don't doubt them at all as its been said since the start the thing is a pain in the *** to develop on. PS4 is going to have to be a total turnaround in Sony's thinking imo.

Problem is, both PSone and PS2 were harder to develop on than their rivals.
It's the Sony way, but this time it's really bit them in the ass.

There's a screen comparison taken with the Gametrailers video and some PC shots in near the same places;

Obviously the 360 pics look even worse due to the quality but that can be expected when taken from a moving video, the colour issue is still there though.
