Was thinking today, the Xbox 360 is almost 2 years old! thats an age in technology terms. How do you think it's held up?

Personally, I'm still blown away from the graphics I see.

It's still holding up pretty well. Obviously high end PC hardware has taken over now, but the gap isn't as big as I would have expected it to be at this point.

Were there many now 'classics' released on the platform when it was released, or did the developers hold initially.
'Tis impressive how powerful modern hardware is.

I think with it being HD and being more powerful than PCs at the time it was released, it is ageing very well indeed. As has already been mentioned, I think we're still only seeing the beginning of what it can do. I expect it to carry on into the first few years of the next decade at least.

I would say 2010 the new one will be out and within a year MS will stop supporting releasing stuff for the old one. This is based on their history of killing support for old products soon after new ones are released. So I would say 2011 will be the 360's final year.

Still 2-3 years left for them to develop some games that use its full hardware potential (i.e all the cores etc), at which point we will see all the older units blow up (I am only semi joking about this ;) ).

I like to think that the next gen after this will be the last gen that is going to be so caught up in how good the graphics are due to the fact that you won't be able to get much better and that there will be a major focus on the gameplay which should bring some wierd and wonderful things to gaming! Roll on 2011 :P

if they did that they would never make any money MS still lose billions on the gaming side of things between supporting a console they still lose money on and throwing money at various devs, i could see many on the boards (shareholders etc. not BBS) getting twitchy if a whole new hardware unit was planned.

Whats the killer app for 360 then.

Sooner or later ps3 is going to get gt5 which might even be good. wii seems to have tons of popularlity

I think 360 is doing ok, it hasnt aged and is still current. Over the next year PC will pull ahead but pc is more expensive..

I think if microsoft released the next new generation console in 2-3 years time , it would annihilate (i like big words today lol) sony.

And I think thats what they might do too :)

The entertainment division will make a profit before their next console is released, probably next year. So I think this will be a non issue when the next console is released (although I concede they could still be making a loss when it is announced).

Wait, what?
What's the killer app?
Take your pick, but statistics would say it's Halo3 which smashed records left right and center.

The PS3 will get GT5, but that's no bigger realease than Halo3 (I'd say it's smaller) and I personally think PGR trounces GT.
