Hello all

i am looking for a standard 775 intel fitting cooler for my gigabyte X38 as i dont want to take off the crazy cool heatsink underneath the mobo, if you take it off you also remove the northbridge cooler...

any ideas please

I'm tempted to buy one just to give it a whirl as there seems to be little to no info on it online... but being Akasa I'm not overly hopeful tho their high end P4 cooler back in the day did a decent job.

the only review going suggests that it is better than the AMD ref. cooler on an Athlon 6000+ by about 10 degrees C.

however, they did not do a comparison with any other aftermarket coolers, so we've nothing to go on.

similarly, a thread/post in another hardware forum denounced the claims of the review i mentioned above as incorrect, and state than Custom PC have given this thing a thorough doshing for being rubbish. i don't have a CPC sub. so i can't say.

Thought I would drop an opinion in......

The OCZ Vindicator (here) is probably one of the best CPU coolers I have used. Yes its HUGE, but very quiet. You can swap out the fan and put your own 120mm silent if needed but the stock one even at high rpm is quiet. I was running on a stock Intel 775 E6850 @ 45 degrees, after fitting the Vindicator I now run at 30 degrees overclocked.

Worth a mention and adding to the poss list! :D:D

Looks like a slightly redesigned Scythe Ninja to me... interesting it has "normal" style mounting points rather than bolt throughs...

I had heard this as well. I would be interested to see their set-up and test procedure, as all the other reviews I have read on this cooler have been very positive and I had been considering one for my next system.

How easy did you find it to install?

I recently fitted a Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme to my Q6600 system and it was very awkward, so I'm looking for alternatives for when I put together a Penryn system. Also did the contact area seem to be flat/well finished, or could it have done with some lapping?

Thanks.

Hi
For my 2 penneth,
Akasa AK 965 Skt 775

Very cheap to buy and very efficient

Get good reviews at most sites and compare well against other expensive top end coolers.

read the reviews on OCUK

Currently running Q6600 @ 3.2 Ghz
Temps are:
35*C idle
55*C 100% load

The added bonus is that it is also quite compact and fits on my Gigabyte DQ6 no problems.

Well worth the money in my humble opinion;)

To tell you the truth, installation was awkward, but only took a few drops of blood to get it on!! No honestly not a problem installing.....if you have short fingers then it might be more of an issue () as you have to reach underneath the blades to push the connectors in to the mobo.

As for the CPU contact area....factory perfect polished. It certainly has the air of quality around it, but thats just my opinion :D I would/will buy again!

Just to add aswell....the picture of the contact area in the link I provided must be an older version as it is not finely polished as mine was when received. Also there are grooves on all four corners to allow for better heat distribution.

Hi Woody
Re Akasa AK-965
The base comes pre-pasted but seem to recall that the base was very smooth and certainly a lot smoother than the Tuniq Tower which I also purchased but decided not to fit due to the crazy cooling on the mobo.

As stated, for the price, you can't really go wrong.
