Morrisons FTL

Am I the only one who automatically reads "FTL" as "Faster Than Light"?

I read "FTL" as "Full Transit Liability" :p

At the end of the day, store policy is store policy. If the manager tells you point blank that you must ask every customer if they are over 21 then you don't have much say in the matter - it's not being a jobsworth. It shows a little inflexibility on Managements part, but the blame for this should in no way lie with the cashier.

I feel like I've missed something. Did they raise the age limit for alcohol from 18 to 21 when I wasn't looking?

Incidentally, what is considered appropriate evidence of age? I only ask because I don't drive and I won't carry my passport with me, so would be stuck if asked for age ID.

The Age limit to buy alcohol is still 18, but the "task 21" scheme is set up so that if you look under 21, you're more likely to get asked. It's easier to tell if someone is over 21 than over 18.

If you dont have a DL or Passport, you'll need something like a PassMe which has your D.O.B. a photo and a holographic logo.

As someone who works at Morrisons, There are some store policies that are quite stupid and have no common sense. But that just takes the biscuit!

A lot of places are changing to 25, as under age are still getting away with looking 21. These things have to be done. There getting checked and proscuted more frequently, what with binge drinking and drunk crime being focused on more. It's heavy penalty for being caught under-age. That's why some shops simply say ID everyone fullstop, When I worked in asda about 8 years ago, they tried this for a few weeks, then gave up.

Why the manager couldn't of served a 72year old, I don't know. He can do that whilst backing up staff. What morrisons policy should be is Id everyone. Anyone without Id is down to the manager to decide.

Morrisons was the shop I got id'd at last week and there's a thread about it here (along with my good news at being accepted for training to be a mother support) and I've been asked for id there loads of times. I don't think I look under 18 or even 21 tbh and I was asked for id once buying an 18 dvd so it's not like it was just the alcohol!

They asked me that, I said yes I am and then he asked for id :p

I don't think I look under 18 or even 21 but during this freshers week at the Union I've been asked for ID twice and once I wasn't even buying the alcohol although I must admit I did nearly spit my pint at the question as I was quite clearly older than 98% of the people in that night including the girl who served me. I tower over most of the freshers here and I'm not particularly baby faced in my view but I'd prefer to be asked than to have kids drinking underage.

My sister has just got back from London so I couldn't ask her about this incident until this evening (she's a manager at the Festival Park Morrisons).

She didn't know about the story but confirmed that the Police and Trading Standards have ordered certain stores who are on a '3 strikes and out' to ask people to confirm their age.
They also use a 'you must look 21' policy to be served without ID but will serve you if you can prove you're over 18.
So there you have it - nothing to do with Morrisons but an order from Trading Standards and the Police and I've got to send her the story.

EDIT: Crap. Wrong thread. Sorry!

While I'm here though I will say this is stupid! haha!

And I've been asked for ID in my local Morrisons. I said I don't have any and they refused. I asked for the manager. He took one look at me and told them to serve me. So much for standing by their staff :p

"To further limit any element of doubt staff at the West Kirby store are required to ask anyone buying alcohol to confirm that they are over 21."

Basically:
Are you over 21?
Yes
Ok, here's your alcohol.

It's not the most secure way of asking people, but then again, I don't think they should have needed confirmation either. I didn't ask everyone who wanted alcohol at a bar whether they were 21.

When did you start needing to be 21 to get Alcohol anyway?
