You don't seem to have said what you've done anywhere.

If I were recruiting that CV wouldn't even get a second look, all it is is a list of some computing terms.
You need to describe what jobs you've held and what you did in them to gain the professional experience you mention on your CV.

The work experience section needs severely expanding, especially given the age in your profile.

Also, isn't saying that you have Window 3.x experience a bit redundent these days?

Thanks Haircut will try doing it now..

@ci no you dont have to reg to open it m8

EDIT do most people that look at CV use office ?
or should i change it to another format ?

Save it as Office 97-2003 format.

That's what most people are using - and some people might not have installed the FileFormatConverters so you can open 2007 documents in 97-2003

Doesn't actually seem to be that much information in it, just a load of acronyms. You should outline explicitly previous roles and associated responsibilities and achievements.

PDF is the way forward, it's the best way to make sure it looks the same on everyones computer (i.e. doesn't need them to have the same fonts installed etc.)

Here is what I think!

You need to sell yourself from the moment they lay their eyes on the top of the page so the 'focus' is good although I would rename it 'key skills' instead.

Give 2-4 bullet points describing in one sentence each job you have had only for the past 5 years. Describe them to the point that interests them but also gives them questions they can ask regarding it.

Put your GCSE's in even if you cant remember going to school. No point in listing a six week leadership course without school history.

Rename 'Professional Experience' to something like 'Career Summary'. You dont want someone to assume you have just used the Office template and not used your own imagination.

Keep 'Windows 3.x' in there as it shows you have a longer history of IT. Remember that it's a talking point! Damn, I still have on my CV history of using the first ever Office Package :)

Put dates on all past work history, education, work experience, coursework and qualifications.

Always try to keep it to 2 pages, although every Recruitment Consultant has told me 3 pages is suffice nowadays. Up to you.

Good Luck :)

Thanks guys :)

still trying to get this done, harder then you think.

It took me weeks to get my CV perfected!
Don't expect to have a brilliant CV with a couple of hours work.

I'm at a stage in my career where I want my CV to have a different focus now as well, so am currently thinking about what sort of information I want to have in it.
Remember this document has to get you noticed for whatever jobs you apply for, it needs to be good.

Well I wouldn't expct you to be able to do a good CV in an hour, may take a day or so. What I always found that is when I wrote it one day and then went back you always change your mind on some things and have to re-write it.

Do any of you guys know where i can get a IT CV template?
So i can fill in my own details.

I wouldn't bother putting Windows 3.x stuff in there, it's a bit pointless IMO.

I also wouldn't have a CV over 2 pages long, it just gets longwinded with superfluous information.

I always rewrite my CV for the job that I'm applying for to make sure it's properly tailored to the company and job, although I keep the ame layout generally.

It's so tempting to start my own thread, but there have been so many of these CV threads lately I don't think it will be appreciated.

Can anyone have a look at mine? ~20kb each and .gif images so no need to download anything.

Quick background;
I am applying for a job. The job is entitled "Web Design" but I'm more geared towards development - however in the job description it seems more like they're generally expanding their team, so I think they might want someone like me for the programming side of things.

Click the thumbnails for a bigger picture :) Obviously I won't send it to them as a .gif :p

(see post #32 for updated CV)

Also, what should I say on a covering letter?

This would be my first employed job (I've been freelance since I began). I know I'm missing dates, and another thing is aspirations in the personal bit.

Thanks :)

Don't bother posting individual GCSE Grades, and yes unless you are going to be applying for a senior position at a company 2 pages is the max for a CV really. There are plenty of guides and example CV's on the web. You should be able to grab a decent template if you look around.

My complete employment history is on there... I just thought I'd pick out the relevant one and put it up top?

I could list my 3 latest websites as a mini-portfolio?

Yeah sorry didn't notice it at the end. You would be better off putting them all together chronologically under your profile rather than having it split over 2 pages.

definitely list some examples of your work.

Also it might be worth listing skills you have learned in your previous jobs, ie: communication skills and multi tasking while in the nursing home ect.

Granted, Windows 3.x is more outdated than Dinosaurs but if OS Platforms are a big thing needed for the relevant job then I think it should be listed.

I can think of many DOS Commands that were used in 3.x that are still used today on even the newest Windows OS.

Just my point also!

:)
