¯\_(ツ)_/¯
EDIT: Thread title is meant to be "Snapped a bolt with 16mm nut - what size thread is it?"

Is there a chart or something that has thread sized and the corrosponding nuts that fit on the thread? It looks like 12mm, but I need to be sure before buying the bolts. :(

Could be anything - you need to measure the internal diameter....

The pitch could be owt too...

*n
I'll try one of those micrometer things... I should be able to get a good idea what it is...
whats the size of the nut hole? surly it will just be that in mm.
Is it metric, imperial or exotic?
The nut is 16mm metric, and still stuck on half the bolt. :(

Typically the head is 4mm larger than the thread.

But, of course it could be totally different altogether ;)
Well, it's from a pug 205, so I'm hoping it's a standard sort of bolt...

Just had an idea, I'm gonna see if I can hunt down the tap n die set and see if any of then match the bit of remaining thread. Hopefully it's m12 as I can get hold of these from screwfix.

It could be anything but its likely to be M10. Are you sure its 16mm because thats an odd size.

Correctomondo!

I managed to work it out with the tap and die set in the end - A M10 x 1.25 die went over the bolt perfectly. :) Now to drive down screwfix with no front bumper and get a load of m10 bolts.:D

Where abouts on the car is it.

If it is metric (no doubt being on a French car) it may be a fine metric size. In which case a standard tap/die would be no good, you need a thread gauge my friend. :)
Edit: must read whole of thread before posting... :p

pshh, just get another standard Mbolt and see if the threads match. Simply place one on the other, if the threads fit together your sorted.

Indeed, they make it up as they go along IME.
Yep, you can get most of the car apart with 10mm, 13mm and 17mm spanners, but they go and put have to odd 16mm nut here and there to keep you on your toes.

All sorted now, bumper is back on, a normal m10 bolt did the trick in the end.

So the nut is 16mm, what's the internal diameter, is it mertic? Is the thread metric? I've seen imperial threads on metric bolts before, usually on flat pack furniture tho.

The nut is 16mm, and the internal diameter seems to be 10mm (It's still stuck on half a snapped bolt, but the bolts thread is 10mm. :)
