Was thinking today about this, and how if you wern't fit enough to catch your food or take your food you died. But it's not really like that anymore. If you're a big fat heffer you just plop down to the shops for a chocolate bar instead of having to chase a hog across a field.

How do you see people, or animals, evolving over a million years?

I reckon we'll run out of food, and then it will become survival of the fattest!

both humans and animals will have laods of genetic defects and illnesses. WIth human waste and rubbish, it's now a lot easier for a lot of animals to scrounge and live at easy.

Humans well we don't die young know. Thus defects aren't bred out. I expect nearly everyone will have bad eye sight within a few generations.

I don't. I think the human genome, and humans are going to be have poorer health, and just using drugs and treatment to get around their problems.

Those with DNA problems have children and they pass it along...rather than die of the disease with no children . So the weakness of there DNA stops there.

The 'fat' gene and other undesirable genes will be identified and switched off.

Some interesting predictions from Human Knowledge: Foundations and Limits
Food Production

Genetic engineering will continue to improve crop yields and hardiness. By 2050 the price of fresh water will hit a permanent ceiling determined not by its natural supply but by the energy cost of its desalinization and transportation. By about 4000, humans will use genetic engineering to culture animal tissue in bulk instead of raising animals en masse. By about 5000, humans will have geno-industrial techniques for efficiently mass-producing food consisting of only of essential nutrients (glucose, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and lipids) and made delectable by artificial flavors or direct neurological stimuli. Human population on earth will ultimately be limited not by food production but by heat pollution.

Sounds like that snot mixture they were slurping in The Matrix. Everything the body needs indeed. :D

Within a few decades it'll be entirely possible to screen embryo's for defects and abort or repair genes and other genetic defects.

Who said we are going to last that long?

There are still people in the amazon forest who wear nothing put boiled vegetables over their tails, they've been there forever. I think we can last until the sun dies or something hits us. :p

"At the current rate, in two decades the Amazon Rainforest will be reduced by 40%. The 2005-2006 year had a 41% drop in deforestation, this was the lowest figure since 1991. Deforestation rates are expected to go down as conservation has been at a very high rate in the past five years. At this rate, it is possible that the Amazon Rainforest will no longer exist by the end of the century."

From WIKI

To many people and to many problems= WAR

END of us

The Amazon has actually created more carbon dioxide than it absorbed some years, in 1992 for example it released 200 million tons of carbon dixoide into the atmosphere.

source? sorry, am not into medical stuff but sounds very interesting.

The world in on self destruct, population has DOUBLED since 1960  and shows no sign of abating. No way can this planet cope with further increases like this. There are only so many resources to go around.
Its all gonna be over within a century or 2....
