Yep, thats right, its dead :p

I've manged to throw a rod through the front of the block, while driving home to my parent's from Surrey.

It started as a random cutting out, then a very loud rattle/knock. I pulled over to investigate, and made a couple of calls. I was told that the engine was pretty much dead.

So, what did I do? Drove it till it died:D 4 miles later, there's a whopping great hole in the front of the block :D

Pictures to follow if agw_01's about :)

Unlucky!

New engine on the way in soon then?

*cough* Mi16 *cough*

picking up a new engine, suspension, whole package tomorrow..i'm just putting a standard 1.9 8v in again, then probably stick in a more aggressive cam in the new year :)

Mi was tempting, but I just can't justify it at the moment, more pressing issues :)

And people say the XU 8v doesn't have bottom end trouble!

/has killed 2 with bottom end failure

Hmmm, shouldn't that bit be inside this bit...?

Good effort Ben :D

you certain what caused this ?

Not 100% sure really, there's bits of shell everywhere though, so likely spun a shell and kicked everything else about.

Got myself a new engine today, with both manifolds attached, all ancilliaries, plus a pair of Koni adjustables...for £210 :D

Why does almost nobody design corresponding notches in shells and inside the big end.

That was one of the Pinto's favourite tricks, cutting off oil to the head.

Ok, engine is swapped, all running fine, after a finding a few water leaks!

Turns out that the driver's side wheel bearing has come apart, so that and the track rod ends are being replaced on thursday, then its all sorted :D

bring on the RR day!

Good stuff, did the same thing to a Pinto in a Capri I owned before :D

You're not a real petrolhead untill you've thrown a conrod through the block :D
