Hi,

Sorry about the vague title i didn't quite know how to word it. Basically Ive seen a Ford Focus on auto trader and I'm really interested in getting it. Its been reduced to £3,250 from £3,450 for this weekend only and i wont be able to get there tomorrow at all. What i was planning to do was ring up tomorrow and just put a deposit down over the phone (if this is possible?). Whats the usual amount for a deposit?.

I'm pretty sure its a Zetec but in the pics its doesn't say Zetec on the side where it should do. Is there any way of finding out with the registration etc?.

VU51 PWN - this is the reg.

Those are the details I got from the RAC car check. Hope they help.

This weekend only? A load of rubbish. No such thing as that with cars, they'll take that price for it any day of the week. It's just a thing to pull punters in.

What sort of mileage is on that?

Also incase you didn't notice this is not the facelift model hence the lack of Zetec badges they only started to fit them to the sides with the facelift AFAIK.

Focus's normally sell pretty fast so it will more than likely work being a marketing strategy or not. If you see what I mean.

Its got 65,581 on the clock, the MOT runs out in december also so I'm going to ask that they include a full 12 months in with the price. They also have a face lift model in black at a similar price but its the LX model, which i hear doesn't have as good a suspension setup as the zetec.

This is the rest of the ad, from the pics it looks in excellent condition.

As for a deposit, £50 should do the trick.

I accepted £50 as a deposit on tuesday from the chap who bought my car yesterday. (i.e. paid in full)

If im totally honest it seems a tad over priced to me more than likely why they have shifted the price down as they can't sell it.

For instance my Focus 1.6 Zetec Facelift 51 Plate 47k on the clock is only worth around 3,300-3,400.

When you put that into perspective this model does seem incredibly over priced considering it is also not a facelift. Add me to MSN if you need any advice :)

What? That's complete garbage.
I have a '99 Zetec and it has the badges (albeit stick-on plastic ones) on the sides.

I would never buy a car without first seeing it. Just seems stupid.

Also, what sort of garages with £200-off weekends take pictures of their stock in supermarket car parks?

Yeh, you can never tell the condition from photos. It could have marks on the seats, scratched alloys just little things that you can use against it.
But it depends if you are fussy or not.

Number plate really pwnz though :o:p

Cheers everyone, i suppose your right, i guess I'll just have to keep checking autotrader every day till a good example is for sale near me (could take forever). I passed my test in June so i just want to get driving but I'm too fussy to just buy any old car. I'm definitely not going to be able to get there today and not sure about tomorrow so that will be gone by then :(.

There was a 2003 Zetec in black 2 mins from me going for 4k but when i went to the forecourt to have another look at it it had gone.

Just done a parkers price check for you;

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=15765&plate=62&buysell=buy

If you could get the car down to around £2,700/£2,800, 2,900 at a push! that would seem about right :), if they are having trouble shifting it they may well be very up for a haggle since they may just want the forecourt space back :p

Just had another quick look on auto trader and for £2,700 I'm looking at a 2000 LX with 90k on the clock . I'm after a black one which always seem to have a higher price attached. I'm rubbish at bargaining so i doubt i could get him down that much.

You dont want a black one - a black Ford of that sort of age is going to have horribly scratched and swirled paintwork and will never look good. Go for a lighter colour.

I really do want a black car :D, my next car will be white .

Ive just rung them and i asked if the car was in as good condition as it looks in the pictures and he said it is and said "its a real bonnie car" whatever that means. I also asked if he'll put 12 months mot on it in with the price and he said he will do.

I might go and have a look at it tomorrow if its still available. He said I'll need around £300 for a deposit, is this normal?.
