hello all

ive bought a new case and psu for my ageing AGP system, on my old psu the main power connector to the mother board had 20 pins, the new psu has 24. do i need a converter or can i just plug it in and have the 4 remaining pins hanging out. Also if i can do this which pins are not inserted the top four or the bottom four, with the clip to the right?

i've also bought a new dvd rewriter, it was OEM so came with no wires of instructions. there are lots of connections on the back, i've pluged in the 4 pin power molex, but what other connectors do i need, is it the same as a HHD using just one wide connector (dont know what they are called)

thanks

Or if they don't clip off you can just plug in the 24 pin ATX connector with 4 pins hanging over the side of the connector.

Regaring the DVD Writer - in addition to the power cable you will also need a data cable. This will either be an IDE cable or a SATA cable, so get whichever is relevant for your DVD writer (check the connector on the back of it) and plug it into the writer and the motherboard.

thanks for your help guys, the 4 extra pins do not come off so i will have to leave them hanging over the edge. does it matter what 4 dont connect?

also on the dvd re writer i've now got a power cable and an IDE cable running to it, do i need any thing else or is that it?

better go try turning it on soon, hope it all still works

thanks again.

It should only fit in one way. If it seems like it's not fitting, try a different configuration.
