Could someone check this car for me

If you do buy that Focus and you want to upgrade the tape stereo to the Ford CD unit. Contact me on MSN as I have one to sell ;)

Thanks for the offer Tom but I'm going to be getting a Pioneer head unit not long after i get the car anyway. thats why i wasn't bothered about it coming with a tape player.

L0rdMike, OMFG that looks amazing. Was that done by yourself? and if so how hard is a finish like that to achieve?. I'm not bothered about it not staying clean as i would actually enjoy washing the car. Plus if i wax it with a quality wax Ive read that its just a case of hosing the dirt away?.

I'm still not sure weather to get the car, i think I'll go and look at it though, thats if i can get someone to drive me over.

The other thing i found with a black car is that its impossible to give it a quick wash. If you dont have time to wash it properly AND thoroughly dry it after, the whole thing ends up covered in watermarks and thus more dirty than it was before you started.

He bought that car either brand new or virtually new, that picture was taken some years ago. You are looking at cars up to 7 years old. It wont look like that. It will look good in the pictures, but close up it will look terrible.

Alternatively, he could just buy a silver car that will look unremarkably bland whether its clean, dirty, wet, dry, old or new.

You don't need to go that far, there are loads of colours more interesting than silver without the nightmare-maintainance of black.

Grey is getting very popular for this reason.

I hate cleaning the black car in the household, it's such a mare :p

No colour can beat black when it's clean and polished. A porter cable will bring a swirlmarked car paint back to a decent state if the paintwork is bad.

If you're the sort of person who will clean and polish it regularly, go for the black as nothing will look better. If you're the sort who will only get the bucket and sponge out before a wedding, then a lighter coloured car will be a better bet.

Pfft, whats all this chat about face-lift Focii, eh?

Bumper mounted indicators f.t.w!! :D

(Greyscale added to hide the tango bulbs....Ive recently changed them to clear anyway though :p)

Funnily enough i like the Grey Focus better than the black but they seem to be rarer than hens teeth.

Conscript, nice :). There really doesn't seem to be that much difference between the 2 really. I was thinking of getting the smoked front repeaters when/ if i get a black focus and clear side repeaters.

The main difference externally is the front grille, headlights, and bump strips on the bumpers. Mines only a 1.6 LX, but I love it to bits, I doubt you'll be disappointed if you get one yourself.

Sorry to bump the thread but Ive found a cheaper Focus but the mileage is at 73k. Is this high for a Focus?, would i be better off going for the other car thats at 65k for £260 more?.

The other car Ive found is only 7 miles away from me and looks in good condition from the pictures. The steering wheel looks a bit worn from the pics but this could just be the flash picking up dust. Its got 73k on the clock and MOT'd until 10-08. Its also has an aftermarket CD player fitted so if this is no good i can sell it on ebay and I'll have the blanking plate for my Pioneer unit. The price is £2,990 so £260 less but 8000 more miles.

My dad said he will take me to look at one tomorrow but he'll only have time to look at one as he has things to do. I'm leaning toward the dearer one due to the lower mileage and "just had a major service" in the ad.

73k is a touch high for my liking but saying that these engines are bomb proof. Take your time with choosing a car and the right one will eventually come along, I know it did for me. Oh and if you don't manage to get that blanking plate I have a brand new one you can have for a fiver :)

73,000 miles isn't high for any car, presuming it has been looked after.

My own car is coming upto 113,000 miles and my Dad's, a P reg Rover 820, is on 295,000 miles. Still runs and drives like a dream.

Go check it out, see what you think and if you like it, buy it :)

Thanks for the reply and I'll let you know if i need the blanking plate.

I think my instructors Focus was around 70k odd and his turbo went costing him £500 (luckily i wont have that problem) and his clutch went costing him over £200 i thing he said. What mileage is your Focus at? and have you had any problems with it?.

I have been taking my time since June when i passed my test :eek, i really just want to get a car and start driving before i forget how to drive :D.

 I thought my dads Sprinter which is on 200k was high mileage. Saying that he had to fork out over £800 recently for a new clutch and then a his water pump went.

I suppose what I'm asking is is 8000k miles less plus a recent major service worth £260?.

In my Dad's ownership over the last 30,000, he's serviced it twice and has had to replace a leaky power steering pipe. It's really hit and miss with cars :)

Mine's done half the miles yet I've had to replace a lot more, although a lot of it has been through choice (or upgrades) rather than actual parts dying.

With regards to the Focus, I guess you need to think about how long it's going to take you to do 8000 miles. Do you do a lot of miles a year? And of course, there's no guarantee the turbo will suddenly die in another few thousand miles. You could buy a car with 20,000 miles on the clock and the engine could blow up next week.

If you can afford the lower mileage version, I see no harm in buying that one.

Yeah i think I'll try and get that one, the numberplate is pretty cool as well :D. With regards mileage I'm not really sure how many miles I'll do. I wont be commuting so it will be purely social and pleasure. I'm sure ill rack up a fair few mile when i first get it tho :).

Is your dad going to keep that car till it dies then?, it'll be interesting to see how many miles he can get out of it.

He wants a ZT190 but don't think he has any plans to change for a while.

Can't see him selling up any time soon though. He's always had British cars and has another project to keep him busy (a lovely white 820 Mk1 sat on his driveway).

The 295k mile car is just his workhorse really. I'll make him pull his finger out and start work on the Mk1 early next year ;)

i think that 3.2 k is dear for that car does anyone else agree?

Edit, 73 is nothing, providing there is service history, etc.
