Trans fat - should be banned?

Why do the OCUK community feel that what ever the news feeds them is whats true?

Trans fat is bad for everyone, why the hell dont people not only understand that but worry for there kids?

The chances are you dont want to admit it, so you do what 60-70% of the population do and hide under the quilt and hope the bad monsters go away...

Trans fats should be banned, just replace them with normal fats the body can deal with.

All diets need a certain amount of fat, and I think life would be pretty dull if you couldn't have a treat now and then - simply get rid of the trans fats and replace them with natural fats/oils.

All food should have nutritional details on it too by law. Theres still plenty of products out there that don't even have basic nutritional info on them.

I would like to see the company directors defending aspartame eat its core ingredients for a month and see how well they fare. Methanol (the stuff that makes tramps blind), and aspartic acid (a strong neurotoxin). The comment about people not being forced into eating these things is pretty blinkered. The fact is these ingredients along with MSG are put into almost all pre-packed foods, so there really is little choice. The only alternative is to cook all your meals from your own ingredients, something that very few people have the time or inclination to do.It's all very well for the government to penalise fat people addicted to transfats and diet pop, but they do little to stop the companies making our food profiteering from the populations ill health.

Wow how very short sighted and totally wrong, It's not ingredients as these thing are not separated. It's a chemical compound, as a result has totally diffrent affects than it's ingredients. It's great how you been so blinkered by false reports.

I completely agree, perhaps we should also get anyone saying that salt doesn't cause high blood pressure to eat sodium and chlorine for a month and see what happens to them?

is that meant to be sarcastic?

If not I suggest you read up on Salt research.

Acidhell I don't see how it can be a short sighted view. If you take 2 chemicals and create a compound they still have the same effect on the system if not exacerbate things and create more problems. A poison is still a poison, if you create a compound from it using another poison do they cancel eachother out. I don't think so

Do you know anything about chemistry at all?

Take the salt example I posted above: sodium is poisonous and catches fire if it comes into contact with water, chlorine is a noxious gas that has been used as a poison.

When they come together to form sodium chloride, common salt, the compound exhibits none of the properties of the composite elements.

This is the thing. People do not eat it's core ingredients for a month. They eat a bit of as they come across it in their diet. If they eat a lot of processed food then they eat a bit more of it. If all they eat is aspartame then they will become ill. Although, if all they eat is sugar they will also become ill.

So when babies drink water they are getting ultra flammable hydrogen and pure oxygen - which, by the way, causes blindness in newborn babies?

I don't think so.

Think you need to squat up on chemistry. that's certainly what happens. A chemical compound can act totally diffrent from it's chemical ingredients. It's not a mixture. A reaction has taken place and a new compound has formed. The body then digests it as the new compound and does not get split back down to it's ingredients.

I can't believe your lack of knowledge on simple chemistry and what you think happens.
