Looking at a car this evening that has been imported from Jersey. Anything to look out for with this? Will it have a negative effect on insurance?

It's unlikely to have been thrashed since there is a 40mph limit all over Jersey.

My usual thoughts on hire cars would be to avoid, but given a 40mph speed limit maybe that shouldn't be the case here. Thoughts?

Hire firms only keep cars 6 months or 10k miles usually now to maximise residuals. And most people, especially those popping to Jersey, get in them and drive them normally.

Clutch and gearbox will have taken a fair bashing in Jersey as all the roads are twisty low speed jobs and quite busy at peak time, I know I was constantly changing gear the whole time we were there. As Fox said it's very unlikely it was thrashed as there really are very few oppertunities to thrash a car in Jersey especially if you don't know the place well.

Opposite, it's likely to of been thrashed, but not racked up many miles.

Jerseyites, love nothing more than thrashing around the roads. Although most stick to there motorbikes.
if it's ex - hire. Then it should be good.

Is it a Ford? Lots of cars imported from Jersey at a young age are ex hire cars.

Nothing ever changes. My parents bought our current car as an import from Jersey - it was an ex-hire car. Had a couple of thousand on it and needed a new clutch

It was 1 year old, and that was 35 years ago, they've still got it :)

Morris Minors are built to last!

I bought a 6 month old Fiesta on 1700 miles from a dealer which was originally from Jersey. (the car, not the dealer!)

The clutch went 6 months later. Now I know why! It was replaced under warranty.

Aside from that, it behaved perfectly and lasted longer than any other car I have owned.

My dad has bought many ex hire cars which came from jersey, hes a driving instructor so they get abused anyway, but he has never had a prob insuring them and I think they all come with the full warrenty.
