£1000 to Spend

The dilema is do i just upgrade the graphics card, monitor and buy more ram for the rig in my sig, or go the whole hog and get a new set up with a quad core.

If going the whole hog i'd need CPU, board, ram, heatsink, PSU and graphics card.

If upgrading i'd like to get a decent graphics card and 24" monitor and PSU but would only have £800 to spend as i need £200 for some more ECC ram.

Any ideas would be appreciated, the rig would be used for gaming and in anticipation of Crysis eventually coming out.

You currently have dual dual core Opterons at 2.6 Ghz? That sounds like plenty of horsepower to me. I'd throw an 8800 GTX into the mix and see how you like it.

Does the mobo require ECC RAM or can it take non-ECC RAM? It wouldn't hurt to switch to a 64-bit OS and move to 4 GiB RAM if you're looking to spend money. :)

If you decide to get a new rig do you need everything or will you reuse your existing case, HDDs, ODDs, etc?

The board does need ECC ram and i'm having trouble trying to locate some more of the corsair that i have installed. I'm currently running vista 64 on the thing now and would just like to make use of the ability to have 4 Gb.

If i went for the new system i'd use the Hdd, case, dvd, keyboard and woudn't need a operating system.

Whichever i choose i'm still going to have to change my PSU as i don't think my enermax could handle a 8800 as well as everthing else. My board is apparently very picky about PSU's and doesn't like split rail ones so i was looking at one of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-001-PP&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=928

Any ideas are appreciated.

is you're copy of vista OEM, if so then you will need a new copy of it when you get a new mobo.

This would be fantastic:

Though you could spend less, get another two or four GiB RAM (selling the kit you have if you opt for replacing it all) the PSU, and the GTX.

Thanks for the spec that looks very good,

I'll do a bit of research on the board and see what people are saying about them and the overclockin potential but will most probably go for this.
